Question about Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop Computer

1 Answer

My Dell Inspiron 530 won't read any DVD Rom but reads regular CD's. I am not sure what is going on here? I have uninstalled the driver and the device many times thinking it would fix it self, no luck with that. I have updated the driver on Dell's (useless) website, and no luck with that. I have tried a few other diff things... and of course, NO LUCK! Please help me, Thank you :( Gabi Ace

Dell Inspiron 1420 is not able to read empty cds or DVDS. My I go to properties it shows empty space as 0. When I try to burn a Cd it says " Insert a blank CD"

Stephen buddy, we need to talk. I do NOT understand anything you are trying to describe. Okay, so you installed a FRESH Operating System and now it is NOT recognizing your DVD-rom, right? Okay, restart the computer and let Windows load up fully. Check Control Panel and check your list of Devices. Sometimes, when you re-install and O.S., you may have to update the firmware or drivers for certain devices.

I formatted the harddrive of a Dell Inspirion 530. It says BOOTMGR missing on the main screen so I put in the VISTA OS disc and it won't read it, and acts like it's not even in the computer.

Hi, go to the above dell website and go to page 192.
It sounds like to me you need to change the boot order in your bios. Follow this instructions and put your cd/dvd drive at the top of the list, then it should run the vista install disk.
Hope this helps

I believe you may have a corrupt driver for your cd-rom or dvd rom.
Dell Driver support

Find your DVD or CD device and reinstall your Drivers.
The problem should go away.
If not, you may have a bad driver or cable.

Dvd/cd will not read any disc

On this, you're going to need to uninstall the drivers for the CD/DVD drive from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the drive and reinstall the drivers. If this doen't work, then most likely the optical eye or the reader board in the drive has gone out and the drive will need to be replaced. These drives are very simple, they work or they don't, there's really no in between with them, and if their not working then replacement is the only option.
