Question about Projection Televisions

Open Question

Dell W4201C HD Plasma TV Remote and manual buttons on TV cannot move Main Menu icon from "Exit" icon. Cannot move cursor to "Set Up" to "unlock" TV Button Lock. When pressing the channel arrow to move from Exit icon to ANY other icons (Input, Picture, Settings, etc.), the screen shows "No Video Input on screen" Therefore, cannot get DVD to work (NOT DVD problem but Dell TV problem) and cannot get Direct TV to work (nothing wrong with Direct TV feed).

SOURCE: blue screen and shut off by self

You will need to reset the Netcommand and tuner settings in the set. The little indented button in the front of the set needs to be pushed in (when the set is off). The front light will blink for about a minute or minute and a half. Then, reprogram the Netcommand settings. This should solve your problem. If you need more information, then, reply to this post and I will respond.

SOURCE: no picture but sound on panasonic plasma

Unplug the TV and disconnect any HDMI cables to the set. If the issue goes away there is a possibility that your HDMI source is causing the problem. Anything on the HDMI can cause odd problems with the TV since the serial data and serail clock lines are routed on HDMI. Those are the 2 commmunication lines used throught the TV for operation so anything HDMI that might load down one of those can cause issues.

SOURCE: Device Menu not working

Could have a stuck button or a corrupt e-prom, but lets try kicking this set in the head, Now these reset codes are model dependent so this code will not work for every set out there but this reset is for the WD-62525. with the set on and with the original TV remote hit the keys in this sequence, MENU-2-4-7-0 this will bring up a service menu, the cruiser should already be on "Initialize" so simply hit enter. this will reset the TV to factory defaults and may fix your problem

SOURCE: Can't get rid of black box

You have your TV in the "Teletext" mode. Go into the TV menu and select the closed-captioning menu and turn off the text function. What you are seeing is the result of the TV's captioning circuit latching onto a false text pilot signal and then throwing up the black box on the screen.

Lamp Time Reset for Samsung TVs

This is a quick reference guide to show you how to reset your
Samsung DLP TV’s lamp hour meter or hour counter.
Resetting the counter is a very simple procedure.

Begin with the TV powered off

Point your remote towards your TV

Press:
Mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power

Your TV set should now say “Loading Factory”

Browse down to “Option” then press Enter
(or the right cursor button)

NOTE:
The Mute+1+8+2 buttons needs to be pressed down consecutively and fairly quickly. If your TV does not enter the service menu after using this combination, you can substitute MENU instead of MUTE. I think that’s a better way to do it.. Also, the right cursor arrow also acts as the ENTER button, so try it if you’re having difficulty with the ENTER button

To exit the service menu, hit press the EXIT button or just turn off your
TV (remember not to turn on your TV immediately afterward!)

I have a Philips 51PW9303 Rear Projection TV that had blue shadows around the sides of the screen and now has a green and red bowed line at bottom. Does I need a convergence board to solve this?

If the following doesn't work the tubes could be at the end of life:
Adjusting convergence:
Note: For best results, the Projection TV needs to be turned on for 15 minutes or longer before adjusting the picture tubes (convergence).

To adjust the convergence of the picture tubes:
  1. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button on the remote.
  2. Press CURSOR RIGHT to enter the PICTURE menu.
  3. Use CURSOR DOWN and RIGHT to select and enter MANUAL CONVERGE.
  4. Press CURSOR RIGHT to select CONVERGE RED or press CURSOR RIGHT and DOWN to select CONVERGE BLUE.
  5. A crosshair will be shown on the screen. If there is any red or blue fringe around the crosshair, use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, DOWN to try and merge the fringe colors with the crosshair.
  6. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button to return to MANUAL CONVERGE menu.
  7. Press the 'EXIT' button to exit the menu.
If you are satisfied with the convergence you may stop now. Otherwise, you can continue and adjust the convergence more using mult ipoint convergence.
To Adjust multipoint convergence:
  1. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button on the remote.
  2. Use CURSOR RIGHT to enter the PICTURE menu.
  3. Use CURSOR DOWN and RIGHT on the cursor ring to select and enter MANUAL CONVERGE.
  4. Press CURSOR RIGHT and DOWN on the cursor ring to select MULTIPOINT RED or MULTIPOINT BLUE.
  5. A grid of crosshairs will appear on the screen. If there is any red or blue fringe around any of them, press CURSOR RIGHT to enter NAVIGATE mode.
  6. Use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, and DOWN to move to a crosshair that has a color outline.
  7. Press the 'EXIT' button to enter ADJUST mode.
  8. Use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, and DOWN to merge the color with the crosshair.
  9. Press the 'STATUS/EXIT' button to return to NAVIGATE mode. Repeat as necessary.
  10. Press the 'MENU' button to return to the MANUAL CONVERGE menu.
  11. Press CURSOR DOWN until SAVE MULTIPOINT is selected.
  12. Press CURSOR RIGHT to save the multipoint settings.
  13. Press the 'EXIT' button to exit the menu.

Our replacement samsung dlp tv lamp doesn't give us a full screen picture on any stations other than the High Definition stations, how do we fix this?

The high def stations are full screen as they are transmitted in a 16:9 ratio which is full screen. However the non HD channels are transmitted in a 4:3 ratio which is square and not full screen. Usually this can be rectifyed by putting your tv in 16:9 mode through it's menu's. You can also adjust this setting through your cable box if you are using one.

Hope this helps

Model 60PL9200D/37 no sound

What device is connected to TV: cable, sat box, dvd player? What type of cable are you using to connect to the accessory device?

For a red, white, and yellow cable:
I cannot hear sound from the television when connecting to the AV1 input. What do I need to do?
Answer When you connect the accessory device to the AV1 input of the TV using either component video cables (YPbPr) or composite video cable (Yellow), you must connect the audio output from the accessory device to the 'INPUT AV1 AUDIO L R' of the TV using the RCA audio cables (Red and White).
If the connection is good,

Check to ensure that the AV1 audio source from the TV on-screen menu is selected to AV1.
  1. Press the 'MENU' button on the remote control.
  2. Press the cursor up/down to select SETUP and press the cursor right.
  3. Press the cursor up/down to select SOURCE and press the cursor right.
  4. Press the cursor up/down to select ANALOG AUDIO IN and press the cursor right.
  5. Press the cursor up/down to select AV1 and press the 'OK' button.
  6. Press the 'MENU' button to exit the menu.
Make sure that the volume on the TV and on the device is set at an audible level and also that the sound hasn't been muted.

For HDMI,
The picture quality is good but the TV does not produce any sound when connected to an accessory device with an HDMI to HDMI cable.

Answer
  • The TV's behavior is considered to be normal as some accessory devices have an HDMI audio output setting that requires to be turned on when using an HDMI to HDMI connection.
  • Check the on-screen menu of the accessory device to ensure that the HDMI audio output is set to ON.
  • In some cases, you may need to set the digital out audio stream of the accessory device to PCM.
  • For detailed information, please refer to the user manual of the accessory device.

Here is a link where you should be able to obtain a service manual for your set. http://www.asm-service-manual.com/

To answer your second question. You have to be careful. Make sure you write down all current settings so you dont mess the Television set up worse. The code is the following.
Accessing the Service Menu w/ Remote:
  • in the setup icon, set anntenna to cable
  • in timer icon, set sleep to 30
  • exit menus & tune to ch. 124
  • adjust volume to -0-
  • press volume down on the set panel & red "CHK" appears onscreen
  • use tv/video button to change video inputs
  • use POWER button on remote to toggle menus
  • navigate service menu with up & down, L&R and action button
  • images are tall & skinny. you must adjust the vertical size & position in the NTSC mode, as these are global.
  • Then set the horizontal size & position for each mode(NTSC, 525p & HDTV).

TIP: Use a dvd that has an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 (I used Starship Troopers) and make it just fit. Don't squeeze too much vertical as the AA9a60 may have some tearing on the top of the picture....this means you will have to cheat and increase horizontal size, cropping some info off the sides.
  • Try using ch.199 & the HBO logo to adjust...the "O" in HBO should be perfectly round (HTPC owners can use VE DVD and the ANAMORPHIC test pattern: title 20 chapter 5 I think). Now you will find your geometry is bowed & convergence is out of whack.
  • First do a STatic adjustment, then do a DYNamic adjustment.
Navigating the Dynamic Convergence Menu
  • cursor buttons- moves cursor postion up& down, L&R
  • #1 button-cycles thru each color gun & combos
  • #2 button-cycles test patterns (normal & dense)
  • #5 button-shows program material in background
  • #7 button-save data...do this often as the set sometimes shuts down in the middle of your work!
  • mute button: cursor data..push to adjust current position.
  • swap button- confirm
  • power-exit
For your final question You should have( 2) STK392-110 convergence ICs in that model. Thats probaly your problem. I would recomend changing them out before adjusting any setting via the service mode. Thes ICs are available from http://electronix.com/ for 5.99 each. Hope this helps let me know if I can be of any further help.
