Try resoldering the main bridge rectifier on the power amp circuit board. You will have to remove the board from the heat-sink. The rectifier is mounted off the side of the board and screwed to the back of the heat-sink. Resoldering this usually cures that problem.

Test all your speaker impedances and check for shorts on both wiring and speakers. Use a digital multimeter. If you still have an issue, disconnect all speakers and test receiver. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I can help some more.

I have a Marantz sr 870 that was working fine when last used. It has been sitting a few years. I now have no output to the speakers or to the headphones. Mute is not on. Please help?

There is a repair manual http://www.manualsparadise.com/service-repair-manuals/Marantz/SR870/RWSPFM-63663893-1

I cannot speak to the company that sells its reputation. The issue is most likely due to the protection circuit in the final audio section. Most use a relay to disconnect the speakers in the event of an overcurrent condition. The relay can fail for a number of reasons.

Mod 2245 marantz no sound right or left.

Hello,

Do you hear the relay click when you turn the unit on? If not you have a issue with one or both amps. If you do get a relay click, check your pre-amp out/main amp in connections on the back. You may want to also play with your controls, dirty controls can cause this condition as well. If you would like to have the unit serviced, check out my website, I have a lot of experience with the vintage Marantz units.

Thanks

The volume control in this unit is most likely an Encoder and these have a nasty habit of getting dirty inside and false reading back to the computer that runs the receiver. In the past , I've had good results opening up the units and spraying what's called De-Oxit D5 into that volume control and rotating the thing a couple dozen times. . De-Oxit can be found on Amazon or Radio Shack

How do you connect an ipod/ipad to the Marantz sr4001

Anything that has a headphone output can be adapted to feed an RCA cable pair for standard stereo to any audio device with a standard RCA input. Get a cable like the one described here:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2

and connect it into any available analog input EXCEPT "Phono". Turn the MP3 player volume up.

After "PROTECT" appears on the unit's display, the standby indicator may start flashing. if it does, there is a problem in the unit or the connection. If this problem reoccurs even when power is activated from the remote control unit, call for servicing.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.

There is no fuses for the speakers. Check setup. If the receiver has 7.1 channel input try to connect a source there so you can check output (amp) section and the speakers.

Marantz sr18ex clicks on and off while watching dvds.

I'm not familiar with Marantz receivers but sounds like it could be intentionally cutting out either because it's overheating or it's afraid it might blow your speakers. Two basic things to try:

1) Leave it off for a few hours
2) Turn the volume way down so you can just hear it - not sure if the cutout is intelligent enough to take this into account but worth trying...

Also, any chance you have it in a closet or cabinet without adequate ventilation? Does the area where it's sitting seem especially warm? If you don't have enough air movement then overheating is far more likely.

Good luck!

No sound/data from dvd or tv to receiver( marantz sr4001).. tuner works as does aux where i run my mp3 from. have just rehooked up main and center channels after repair. nothing else has changed ..just no...

You may have to tell the amp which type of input the dvd and tv are pluged into eg phono, optical or coax, you should find this in the amp set up menu.
hope this helps.
