The phone itself isn't busted, so, there's something wrong with the flex cable in the slider. But also, call your number from a house phone or something. If the phone can't receive calls, the software's messed up. Mine recently did this also, and I have to take it back to the Verizon store where I got it from and complain. The guy lied and said 'No complaints about the screen going blank'. So, call the Motorola repair shop, or go to the shop you got it from.
You seem to have a issue with the Flex Ribbon Inside. The Display has a Flex ribbon that connects to the keypad area. there seems to be a fault with that ribbon. this is common problem with **** shell phones/ Slider phones.. best solution would be to take it to a repair shop. unless you have warranty.
It looks like I have the same problem with my phone. I guess connection with the screen got broken in the hinge...Guys in Cingular store said that they can't fix it. I decided to buy a new phone, but now trying to figure out how to get the address book. I just posted my concern, and will hope someone will give me a suggestion. You might pay attention to it.
