Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Dell inspiron 2400 wont connect to the internet etc.

This is a friends computer he bought from someone. Wanted me to reinstall xp. I did so. Beforehand the comp wouldnt even connect to the internet. He told me the guy used wireless. I have wireless and ethernet. Neither are working. To top it off I can't get the screen resolution to go up. It's stick on 600 by 800. I tried putting some updates on a disk and installing them that way. And it wouldnt read anything from the disk. If I could get this thing to connect to the internet I'm sure the updates would fix it.

First You need to get the chipset driver, video driver to correct resolution and network drivers. Check in hardware manager which device need a driver and install it.

Before you use the Recovery CD you need to backup your data because to restoring your laptop will wipe your data off the hard disk.
To backup your data when you cannot boot up your laptop, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter. Connect this hard drive/USB adapter into the USB port of a working computer. The computer will see it as an external storage device, you can then open the folders and backup your data.
You can then fit the hard drive back into the Dell laptop and boot up with the Dell recovery CD to reinstall Windows etc.

My Dell Dimension 2400 has stopped working - how do i restore the factory settings ?

Hello,

It appears your model Dell 2400 should have been supplied with the CD's for reinstalling Windows XP, CD will be green or blue in color and the drivers and applications that came with the computer.

If so, back up your files first to an external drive and then put the CD in the CD drive and reboot the computer. It should come up to reinstall XP.

If good to go, you will be prompted to install the second Cd as well as online XP updates.
Software that was installed after you bought the computer also wouyld have to be reinstall as well as restoring your backed up file.

Rememberm all data is lost when you reinstall your operating system, unless these is a choice on install that may ask for destructive, or non-destrutive (keeps files).

I am attaching a link to Dell for your to copy and paste into your web browser for the support page for drivers and user guide in the event you need to reveiw the process.

Ethernet not working after format and xp reinstall

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage, then go to the Device Manager in the list on the left and find the Network Adapter from the list on the right, right-click Network Adapter and select Uninstall. When you reboot, XP should find the Adapter and reinstall it automatically. Another reboot may be required.

If it still will not connect, go to the NIC Manufacturer's website and download the driver to removable media. The Driver Update option can be accessed in the Device Manager, but this time select Properties when you right-click the Network Adapter, and go to the Driver tab.
