I have a Dell 4550 series monitor withmicrosoft windows XP Home Edition purchased on 11/2002. Lately, everytime I boot it up, it says invalid configuration, please hit F1 to continue, F2 to run setup program. And the time of day, date, goes back to the date of purchase and always have to be reset to the current date and time. What caused that to occur.

You need a new motherboard battery, it is like a very large watch battery located somewhere on the motherboard inside the computer case.

Dell computor message on a black screen windows root \system 32\hal.dill what do I do

Use the Bootcfg utility in the Recovery Console to correct the Boot.ini file:
  1. Use the Windows XP CD-ROM to start your computer.
  2. When you receive the message to press R to repair Windows by using the Recovery Console, press the R key.
  3. Select the Windows installation that you want, and then type the administrator password when prompted.
  4. Type bootcfg /rebuild, and then press ENTER.
  5. When the Windows installation is located, the following instructions are displayed: Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All)
[Type Y in response to this message.]

    Enter Load Identifier:
[This is the name of the operating system. Type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition.]

    Enter OS Load options:
[Leave this field blank, and then press ENTER]. After you perform the preceding steps, restart the computer, and then select the first item on the boot menu. This should allow Windows XP to start normally.

After Windows XP has successfully loaded, the Boot.ini can be modified to remove the incorrect entry.

Ive been trying to set up a new computer with an older family pc. It has windows xp home edition on it, but everytime i boot it up it doesnt go past the startup screen and says i need a start up file.

Check whether the hardware requirements of XP matches yours. If there is no problem, check for any error in the hard disk. You can use any of the bootable disk management tool. I recommend Hiren Boot CD or Knopix (linux) because both are free and easy to use. Format the disk partition to NTFS. And try installing Windows now. If still there is a problem then your XP cd maybe corrupted.

I have the purple windows reboot disk for a dell with windowns xp home edition including service pack 2 it says my key is invalid any help?

Those disks can only be used on the machines for which they were supplied.

The key if it is the correct one for that disk will work.

If you get the error saying it has been used to many times then all you need to do is call microsoft and in about 6-8 minutes you will be running again.
