I have a Philips CDD3610 2x2x6, getting a bit old now, but it has never
given a problem once Philips got v3 firmware.
I recently also fitted a Sony 8x4x32, good for writing disks quickly, BUT
produces clicks between tracks when using Track At Once so the Philips is
still more reliable.

I've tried most writing software, but use Adaptec Creator v4.01

Experiment with different brands in your various audio players. If
your experience is typical, you will find big variations in
compatibility. ie. Some players may reject certain
brands/formulations of CDRs.

In general, the 'branded' CDRs (TDK, Sony etc) tend to perform
better but the only sure way is to experiment. Buy a load of one-offs
and test them.

You can also experiment with burning at lower speeds - sometimes
high speed (4x or above) burns don't seem to work too well for audio
and you must go back to 2x or even 1x.

You can use any disks for audio, I use unbranded ones, preferably
blue/silver.
The CD player in my car doesn't like CD-R though!, they play some times.
