Re: Canon MPC5500 using an Apple M3240 blk cartridge???
May be the same cartridge, but several brand name cartridges have computer chips is them that may not recognize other brand name cartridges, even though the cartridges may look identical.
Canon use to make all of the apple printers back in the day when apple actually sold name brand printers. That been awhile though... long while. The apple cartridge has to be really old stock.
I would take it back and request the name brand cartridge or at least a generic one that says it is compatible with your printer.
Hope this helps.

One or both print cartridges are defective.Look under the "check ink" what message come.If it's BLK change black cartridge, if it's CLR change the color cartridge. If BLK and CLR change both cartridges.
put "recommend a new c-crt" in the question box. Select the ERROR LCD: RECOMMEND NEW C-CRT answer and follow the instructions to clear the cyan cartridge error. This should take care of the problem. Let me know if this doesn't work. Thanks.
Hold down the enter button 1rst then press the setup button. This will bypass the annoying align cartridge problem. For some reason it does this because the cartridge you bought was refilled then sold again. Your welcome!
The serial number is located inside the maching, behind the tape attached to the cartridge carrier. When the cartridges are all the way to the left side (position for changing cartridges), the serial number is visible at the center-right position. Open the maching as if you were going to change cartridges.
There is know way round this, I can understand why you would want to do it this way. I have had a canon for years and i think canon are the best printers sold on the market today. The main reason i brought this printer was due to the document feeder and that it does everything you could really ask for from a all in one. I also refill my own ink. The best thing to do is to buy empty cartridges and install then in the printer so you can use all the other featuresavailable with the mx310.....
Aligning the cartridge has nothing to do with the problem of the u150 error that two of the same ink tank cartridges are installed. It's a defective chip in the ink cartridge, as soon as I placed a new cartridge in it worked like a charm. HOLD ON TO YOUR INK CARTRIDGE RECEIPTS, because if this happens to you and the cartridge is obviously new....the store of purchase should provide you with a replacement (+ if you don't want to make a 2nd trip, some stores have the mp830 on display and you can have them toss the cartridge in and check to make sure the chip is working properly). IF THE STORE WON'T REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE CARTRIDGE, contact CANON (USA 1-800-828-4040)and explain the problem & hopefully the will stand behind their product and replace the defective cartridge.
