The battery does not charge anymore ,the bios setting says idle

How can I get the battery to charge again? Is it a bios setting? or am I missing something? It worked fine until I took a trip and partway thru the trip the battery quit charging?

No, the light on the laptop doesn't come on anymore. I will find a VOM meter and check output. Thanks

Should the battery setting in BIOS say idle?

Remove battery and reseat.
Use VOM (Volt-Ohm Meter) and phsically check to make sure the power supply is putting out advertised voltage (typically 19-20 VDC)
Make sure power supply recepticle (the female part on the laptop itself) has not been broken or reamed out such that contact is not being made.

When you plug power supply in, does the charging light on the laptop come on?

I'm in the same situation. Apparently, the motherboard contains a chipset that controls the power charging to the battery by identifying the charger type. I updated my Bios & flashed, bought new baterry and check with 2nd charger with no luck.

Solution.. Replace Motherboard ( in other words trow your laptop and get a new one)

Sony laptop not getting charge

Check inside your Bios or System Setup for settings that control the battery. Turn your laptop off, then turn it on and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot and try again. Once you are in the Bios or System Setup, search thru it for some settings that control the battery.

HI there!

A amber light power button means that the
distribution of the power is not working properly,

And as you have said the battery won't charge anymore,

Usually what fixes that problem of yours is a BIOS
update but from what i see you cannot fix it with a BIOS update anymore.

And on what they said yes your gonna need to replace motherboard because it's not detecting the charger anymore if you can still access BIOS setup go to battery info you will see that the ac adapter is unknow.

So for the fix of your problem there you'll need to get a motherboard for your computer.

Hope this helps!

Acer aspire one battery light flashes orange. When booting after a few seconds it shutsdown. Now all lights stay off. Can this acer netbook work without batery ? It doesn't seem to charge the batery

Finally I got it working again, after a lot of try's (just put the plug in for a few hours) the led was red again for a brief moment, then it starting to flash orange again.
I looked it up on a lot of forums, the problem is that the (old) bios doesn't charge the batery anymore when it is deeply discharged.
So I put the plug in and out for about 10-15 times , and the brief moment it is not flashing it's still charging. Until it is not deeply discharged anymore and then it is charging the batery like it did before.

But I still don't understand why it is not working without the batery inserted ??

Dell insprion laptop not charging the battery, showing IDLE when charger is connected to it, my charger is showing idle even in bios setting what is the problem

remove battery.
connect ac adapter.
make sure ac adapter led is on.
connect ac adapter to laptop.
check if ac adapter led still on after connection laptop.
turn on laptop then check bios if ac adapter is determined.
check bios as well if it is updated. if not then download the latest bios update from dell support site.
after updating bios charge the batt while laptop is not use. check if changes will happen on the number of charge. make sure you check the charge in bios not in windows.
if charge in bios made changes while on windows still says idle and not charging then reinstall the OS.
if all fails no changes in charge % batt then have the batt replaced.

Dell d620 will not go into charge mode

This is usually caused by a bad battery. Sounds like both batteries are not working properly. They may still hold some charge, but they are wearing out. After all, they are batteries, and bateries wear out. Keep in mind that some batteries are better than others, even though they may be the same brand, some will hold a charge longer, and some wear out faster. I'm on my second new battery in a year and a half on my Dell, the first held a great charge but wore out after approx 8 months, the one I'm using now still charges fine but only last about an hour and 15 mins.
