My laptop is stuck on the screen before the page for the login screen, it is a blinking dash, with a black backdrop, it has been stuck for 2 days, what is wrong with it? And how can i fix it?

If the DeLL Post screen comes up it means that your laptop is okay. Pretty much your windows is corrupted and that's the reason why it's not starting up.

Things that you can do: (for windows vista & windows 7 only)

1. Restart the PC and immediately press F8. (You need to tap/press F8 repeatedly while starting up). You should get a screen that says "Advanced option menu."
2. Select Last known good configuration. If it does not work. restart the pc and press F8 again.
3. Select Repair your computer.
4. Run start up repair. If nothing happens. Run system restore. If it fails, the boot manager file of windows is corrupted.

Last option, you could try Dell PC Restore by pressing CTRL + F11 at the same time while the system is starting up. (You could start pressing CTRL + F11 when the DELL flash screen comes up).

NOTE: Running Dell PC Restore will erase your files/data & put your system back to factory settings.

Hi. Since the computer is turning on we may try draining the electrostatic energy of the motherboard. Take out the batery and unplugged the power adapter from the wall socket. Press and hold the power button for 30 secs and put everything back in then turn ON the computer. If same problem appears then this cold be an LCD problem.

We have a Husky 435 (two year warranty) that was new last year. It would start and run fine for several days, then nothing--took to warranty service where they replaced the ignition module the first time. Ran for several more days, then nothing again--this time they replaced the carburetor and it seems to working fine from then on. Suspect that Husqvarna has had problems with our ethanol-blended fuels. If you still have warranty coverage, then take advantage. Hope this helps!

Acer desktop PC locked up and now won't turn off or boot up

Hello,

I've seen a similar issue on Acer Veriton 7900. When you unplug the power chord while the machine is still running the BIOS/CMOS gets bugged up. If your PC doesn't have a 3 year warranty you can clear the CMOS/BIOS. To do this, note the following...

1.) Unplug the power cord

2.) Remove the CMOS battery from the unit

[OPTIONAL] move the jumper on the mainboard to the 'clear position' It should be indicated on your mainboard.After 30 seconds move jumper back on original position

3.) Wait for 30 seconds

4.) Place CMOS battery back into its position

5.) Reconnect the power cord and attempt to power on the unit.

hey here are somethings you need to do.

1) Open internet explorer -> Tools-> Internet options ->General -> Browsing History -> Delete -> Check all boxes -> Delete. (IE 8, The process is quite similar in other browsers as well)

2)For XP
Start-> Run-> type temp-> Ok-> Select all-> (Shift +Delete)

For vista
Start-> Start Search-> type temp-> Ok-> Select all-> (Shift +Delete)

3) For XP
Start-> Run -> type %temp%-> Ok-> Select all -> (shift+delete)

For Vista
Start-> Start Search-> type %temp%-> Ok-> Select all-> (Shift +Delete)

4) Turn off laptop, Remove battery , Remove AC adapter, Press power button for 2 minutes. Put both back on. Turn on laptop.

5) Run virus scan and check for malware and other virus related issues. If anything is found delete the infected files.

6)
For XP
Go to Control Panel-> Add and remove programs-> Remove all unnecessary softwares

For Vista
Go to Control Panel-> programs-> Installed Progams->Remove all unnecessary softwares

7)
For XP
Run-> msconfig-> Startup->Disable all

8)
Check for the system RAM. If your laptop has 2 memory cards installed. One might have failed. So try to remove it and fix it back again and check

My hp laptop turns on but nothing is on the screen

It sometimes happens when u use sleep or hibernate on computer using Vista that it doesn't start properly. You would have to use sleep regularly tho. In your case i'm not sure. Sometimes computer randomly manages to run properly and other days it just won't start even after many tries. Just repeat process of turning it on until it starts properly. If it does it's probably the case of what i mentioned... if it doesn't problem might be somewhere else ( maybe your power cord is damaged and your battery too? ) i had friend with the same problem and it kept getting worse. They had to change motherboard or power source for her i'm afraid. Hardware change is definitely required i guess. Good luck

Computer turns on but screen wont

First,If you are running windows vista,This can be due to an update that has your video driver and windows video driver running at the same time.

Hardware would be the invertor board is bad.

Ttry to start with F8 and choose start in vga mode,If this allows you to start normally,go to the device manager and update the video drivers

Startup

hi,
you should have specified about your laptop. but you can try the following steps.
1. check the powercord and battery.
2. check screen brightness and contrast.
3. assuming that you login . click start-> run ..( msconfig ) -> and press ok-> in the window that appears click the startup tab. now click disable all. this will probably help..
4. or you might be running Vista in a 512 ram.
5. or you can try to insert the windows installation disk and start the laptop. and if the blue screen appears continue reinstalling the OS. this would probably help.
