Question about Tappan MPF500PBW Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have an old (20 years +) Tappanr 4 burner range with a double oven. I am missing the knob for the cleaning cycle but it says it is self cleaning. I need a replacement. I'd also like to find replacement mesh seal for the lower oven door, and I can't figure out where the broiler is. (I can't see anywhere I can broil but the lower oven has a broil cycle on the dial. Anyone know where the broiler is? or where I can get new knobs...Also, can the clock be repaired. Mine doesn't run.

Chances ar erte hlower oven door , is your broiler, the older models didnt have a seperate broiler inside oven, rather they used 1 burner bar ,and depending on wher oyu place the food you would either bake(above) or broil( under) made sense, just pain in the rear to bend down to use it. as far a knob and gasket , perhaps you can find a model number under the main top assy so we can look up for you

My older model electric hotpoint selfcleaing range, lower oven self cleaning function is not working. what could be wrong, maybe i didn't set a control knob correctly, don't have a maual for t

Back to the fifties! If the lower oven cooks normally, the heating element probably is OK. For self cleaning the normal temperature setting is bypassed and the heating element is set to a substantially higher level. Your oven may be unable to self clean because operation of the knob may not actually start the cycle. The thermostat could need replacing even though normal cooking is OK.

I have model GS563LXSS...all of a sudden the oven

It is not good to do the self clean. The electronics take a beating. Probably the ignitor went out. The oven gets too hot.

You're right about not using the self clean option. Your oven gets up to over 800 degrees when you use that feature. You can choose to simply keep your oven wiped out, rather than self clean it. The timer is most likely going out if the "stop" button doesn't work after cleaning. Please call or email us and we will be sure toget the right part for you. I hope this solves your problem. Ella

Should I???

Make sure that you will be happy with this unit. The ovens are fairly small and you will have to bend alot to use the lower oven. The only problems my company have run into so far are the control boards and not getting very clean following the self clean cycles. Good Luck

Hotpoint 30" self cleaning gas range with sealed burners - no bake

It may be the ignitor, they can crack and you wouldn't even see. Good news is they are cheap ($5-20) and they are usually easy to replace. But before you replace it...

When set to bake, does the "oven cycle" light come on? If not, that means no power is being sent to the ignitor. Reason? There is a switch in the oven latch, to make sure a) latch must be closed for cleaning cycle and b) latch must be unlocked for baking. On mine, the switch button gets stuck, so even when the latch is unlocked, it thinks it is locked and will not allow the bake cycle to proceed. Cycling the latch a few times may free it, otherwise you'll need to replace the switch (not that hard but a bit of a pain to get to).
