Same here, same router. Resets don't do anything and when I try to access192.168.1.1 I get a network timeout error. I suppose the router could be faulty but since I'm a networking novice I'm going to assume I'm the faulty one in the equation.

Is there somewhere to download the setup software for one of these? I've been to the Netgear site and couldn't find it.

I'm using Vista Home Ultimate and was able to establish contact with the router by creating a new network but was unable to give it Internet access with my limited experience with Vista (New computer, first time Vista user).

Guess what? You don't need a CD to "install" software, it's already on the router.

Since I don't know what version you have (v1-v4) you'll have to find it on the bottom of the router and then link to the proper one.

It's pretty easy, just follow the tab "how to set up a router if I don't know the password". Of course, before you go to all that trouble, try plugging a wired connection into it, and go to 192.168.1.1 or whatever the gateway shows and use "admin" and "password" or "1234" for your username and password.

If none of these work, THEN one of the holes in the back is the reset button (should be a round hole between the last ethernet port and the power supply jack). You have to hold it in for 10 seconds until it blinks and then release it. You may have to power cycle the router as noted in the reset instructions.

I want to instal the d-link dir-628 but i dont have the cd

You don't really need the CD to install the router. This link will take you to the DLink support page for your router. If you have lost your user manual, click on the link for "Product Manual" and download it to your computer, then unzip the compressed file to read the PDF manual. It will explain to you how to use your web browser (IE or Firefox or whatever your use) to set up your router.

Hope that's helpful.

Twice after using Google's gmail video chat with our RP614, our internet access stopped. I had to recycle the power on the RP614 each time. Is this a known issue?

I can't think of a connection between the two events, esp if it happened only twice. I own a similar Netgear router (wi-fi tho and not DSL), and find it very reliable.

New router will not hook up to my laptop.

Check your physical connection first. From the modem, it should be connected to the router's Internet port, then your computer must be connected to port 1 on the back of the router. Then do a power cycle, run the setup CD. If it doesn't work, you need to manually configure the router. You may need assistance from Netgear tech support. Call their toll free number

The light of internet is orange, not yellow.

The router should have reset button on the back. This will reset it to factory defaults. If you have an ISP that gives you internet without a username and password like rogers then you should be good to go. If your ISP is like Bell then you will need to get into the website of the router and configure it.

You need to configure first that RP614 to work with your network.

Macintoshes and the RP614 Router Gateway

You need a Macintosh computer running MacOS 8.6, 9.x, or 10.x. (Netgear products are not supported for versions of MacOS before 8.6.) You can use the RP614 with an eMac, iBook, iMac, PowerBook, PowerMac, or PowerPC as long as they are running one of these versions of MacOS. You also need a few Ethernet cables to make the connections between the router to your modem for internet connection and from the router to your computers or peripherals. Topic 2. How do I prevent my Network configuration from being lost when I restart my computer? When making configuration changes for MacOS it is best to use Configurations (MacOS 8.x or 9. x) or Network Location (MacOS 10. x) settings instead of just changing settings for each category (TCP/IP, AppleTalk, AirPort, etc.). If you just make changes to your settings, they may be lost when you restart your computer unless you have saved them in a Configuration or Network Location. To create a Configuration in MacOS 8.x or 9.x: 1. Open AppleTalk (or TCP/IP) from the Apple Menu in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. 2. From the pull-down File menu select the Configurations option. 3. Choose New Configuration. 4. Type in a name for your new configuration (Netgear Router). 5. Make your changes to the AppleTalk (or TCP/IP) settings. 6. When you close AppleTalk (or TCP/IP) choose Save Changes. Whenever you make Configuration changes for settings in MacOS 8.x or 9.x, open Configurations from the File menu or by pressing Command-K. Saving your changes in Configurations means that they will not be lost when you reboot your computer. To create a Network Location in MacOS 10.x: 1. Open the Apple Menu by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. 2. Select System Preferences. The System Preferences window displays. 3. From the System Preferences window click Network under Internet & Network. The Network settings window displays. 4. Click the Lock icon (if necessary) in the lower left-hand corner of the window to unlock the Network window so you can make changes. (You may be asked to type in your User Name and Password.) 5. Click the pull-down menu next to Location at the top of the Network window. 6. Select the New Location option. 7. Type in a name for your new Location and click OK. 8. Make your changes to the TCP/IP, AppleTalk, and AirPort settings. 9. Click the Lock icon in the lower left-hand corner to prevent further changes. The Apply configuration changes? Window displays. 10. Click Apply to apply the configuration changes for the newly-created Location. 11. Close the Network window. Topic 3. How do I connect a Macintosh to the RP614 Router Gateway? MacOS 8.6, 9.x, and 10.x 1. Set up your system for installation. 2. First make sure your ISP connection is working. Try testing your computer with the ISP directly to make sure you can successfully make a connection to the internet. 3. Connect your DSL or cable modem to the Netgear Router. 4. Log on as Administrator (if required for your system to make configuration changes). 5. Quit all other applications. It's best when configuring MacOS 8.6 and 9.x to use the Configurations settings for AppleTalk and TCP/IP because they should then retain their settings when you reboot. (Use Network Locations to save your settings changes in Mac OS 10.x.) If you just change the settings but don't use a Configuration or Network Location to save your settings changes, you may lose those changes when you restart your computer.
