Question about Canon ZR200 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Canon MD160 Loading DV tape. As unit closes it issues a warning sound & then indicates that the tape needs to be removed? I too have a ZR200 that will not load a cassette - it just beeps and issues a warning to remove the tape. I've ruled out problems with tape or power supply.

The beeps are a result of what they call a reel error. The camera needs to sense the motion of the take-up and supply reels, and when it doesn't, it gives this error to prevent the tape from spooling out into the mech. There are two possibilities. 1: there is a hard fault in the unit causing no take-up reel action most likely due to a worn or gummed up idler wheel, or 2: and this is very possible and I have seen this frequently, there is a small amount of contamination on the surfaces that contact the tape in the camera mechanism. Note: if the drum assy(head) is not rotating, or stops rotating when the tape contacts it, this will also cause the same error, again sometimes due to contamination. Many times this whole problem starts due to condensation from going from different environments like outside to inside, or the reverse. Many times the dew sensor will not activate properly and this occurs. If it is not a mechanical problem inside the camcorder, a good cleaning will fix this. If you decide to clean this yourself, be very careful of the heads since they are fragile and can be broken quite easily. Getting into one of these to clean the tape contact surfaces is not very easy but you can do it with a q-tip and denatured alcohol. The primary things to be cleaned are the shiny metal surfaces that contact the tape, the drum, and the tape guides. These mechanisms are very fragile so be careful. If you still get the error, your unit needs to be serviced or replace. Best of luck

When i ejecting the cassette in it retuning it whith a sound pit , pit , pit, pit,

This sounds to me like tape slack. Try to open the tape path of your cassette carefully and wind the loose tape back until you regain tension. Close back the cover and retry. In case the same effect happens again, the tape department of your ZR200 is faulty. Only well schooled stuff should open your Cam because of delicate parts inside!!!
Best wishes

Can I hook up to the DW 100 Canon burner with my ZR200 to burn mini tapes on DVD?

No. The Canon USA web site says the Canon DW-100 has a USB terminal and works with "USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (with compatible Canon camcorders only)." In other words, the Canon DW-100 burner works only with Canon's USB 2.0 camcorders. I have a Canon ZR200. The ZR200 has Firewire 400 digital video output, not USB 2.0 output. The USB port on the ZR200 is ONLY for still images. Video will not and cannot be output through the USB port on the ZR200. (Page 121 in the ZR200 manual mentions using the USB port on your camcorder for transferring still JPEG images to your computer.) You need a DVD burner with "DV Input" (also called Firewire 400 or IEEE 1394) to hook up your camcorder to burn Mini-DV tapes onto DVD. The Sony VRDMC10 Stand Alone DVD Recorder/Player has DV Input. The ZR200 camcorder did not come with a Firewire cable, but you can buy one at any electronics store or at a cheaper price online. Make sure that you get the right kind of Firewire cable, 4-pin to 4-pin or 4-pin to 6-pin, whatever the DVD burner you choose requires. (Your ZR200 has a 4-pin DV port on the camera's end.) USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (with compatible Canon camcorders only)

Conon zr200 tape loading assembly will close with no tape in but will not close with tape in carriage

The tape transport mechanism cannot fully engage the tape to the head. When a tape is inserted, the tape guides have to pull the tape from the cartridge and send it towards the head. There is a sensor in the carriage that activates the transport to perform its' job. When that sensor is not enable, it will just allow the door to close and the tape guides will remain stationary. Basically, it needs to be taken apart and fixed or realigned.

Sony DCR-TRV340 tape door won't close

close it up with out a tape in it.  Slap the side with the tape door three times.  Open it up and it should work.  Sounds stupid, but it works.  For real.
