Head to www.crucial.com. Click the "Scan My System" button and allow the ActiveX controls to install. They will scan your computer and tell you how much memory you have, the maximum your system can take, and will price memory you can order from them. It will also tell you what type of memory you have as well as speed.

Just installed 2 512 mb memory but when i turn the laptop on the fan turns on and the lights blink but it works fine with old memory. and others have upgraded memory to 2 gb when the max is 1 gb and theirs...

Sound like you have two questions:

1) Why does my new memory not work?

2) Can I upgrade to 2 GB?

For Question #1, my thought is that maybe the new memory does not match up the laptops specifications. According to Gateway's website, "This notebook has two 200-pin industry standard DDR-SODIMM sockets that can accept 266 MHz DDR RAM memory module." Is the new memory 266 MHz? If not, that could be your problem and you should get the appropriate type of memory.

If the memory you purchased is 266 MHz, you probably have defective hardware and should seek a refund or replacement.

As for Question #2, you can try it but you may waste your money. If the manufacturer says the max memory allowed is 1 GB, it probably is true. I would only try it if you could get free, cheap or borrowed memory.

Gateway desktop fx 7026 memory issue, has 4 slots came with( 2 )2 gb sticks = 4 gigs it came with. when i add 2 extra gig it doesnt recognize.

the specs i read says 8 gig is the max. here is what it says for RAM
RAM
  • Installed Size 4.0 GB / 8.0 GB (max)
  • Technology DDR2 SDRAM
  • Memory Speed 667.0 MHz
  • Form Factor DIMM 240-pin
  • Features Dual channel memory architecture
  • Configuration Features 2 x 2 GB

check to make sure you have added the right type of memory. also look at your user manual. it should tell you where and how to place the added sticks. sometimes they have to be added in pairs or have to be in specific slots. also if you dont have the manual it is on the gateway site. you should type in your model and serial number and get all the info you need.

What is the maximum amount of memory that this board can use? Max memory per slot?

From the information I could gather at Gateway support (which was very confusing) the maximum memory for this board is 2 GB using 512 max in 4 slots. (This is an older board. I would not be very optimistic that the correct RAM modules are still available).

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Max memory is 2GB, i.e. 1GB per slot(DIMM), so you will need 2 X (SimpleTech 1 GB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM). {Always use matched pairs only}

I want to add memory. Currently we have 256 and our sales papers say it is expandable to 2GB. My system serial number is 0027629510. My serial number is IUMV22608247. I get mixed messages about if/how much...

  • This system require to install memory in pairs
  • Your Gateway 700-Series 700SE only supports memory modules made with a specific type of chip
Memory Type: Rambus RDRAM Memory Speed: PC800 Chipset: Memory Type: Non-ECC Non-Registered, ECC Non-Registered, Memory Slot(s): 4 Max. Memory Per System: 2048MB (2GB) Max. Memory Per Slot: 512MB

copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
