Hate to tell you this, but it is your motherboard. Just replaced the motherboard in one last week for the same problem.  I recommend taking it to a local repair shop, but if you want to try to fix it yourself, let me know and I'll guide you as best as I can.

Something could be wrong with your installed hardware (the ones that are user installable/replaceable anyway). Take a look at your ram, if you have two pieces, try taking one out, and/or swapping with the other one if it still doesn't help - (with only one installed again). Try taking the cd drive out, there should be a release latch or screw holding it in place on the bottom, which you have to move/screw out. And try taking out other stuff that you can do safely as well. (like wireless cards, etc etc)

Something might be shorting, and therefore not allowing the system to ever open up because of the circuit protection. You might have to take it apart and clean it, or get someone to check it out. Easiest way for you to try to diagnose it is to remove stuff, like I said above, and see if anything you can replace you self needs to get replaced or cleaned...I once heard of a laptop not starting since there was a piece of hair on a ram board that was shorting and not letting the system start up, like yours is.

Regarding your question you could try a power discharge for your device:
- disconnect the AC adapter
- unplug the battery (if detachable)
- press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (to discharge the components)
- plug the AC adapter only (without the battery if it is detachable)
- turn on the unit

If the battery is not detachable, please follow the procedure with the battery attatched.

- turn off the unit
- disconnect the AC adapter
- press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (to discharge the components)
- plug the AC adapter
- turn on the unit

Battery not recognised/not charging

Turn the computer off, unplug it, take the battery out. Then hold the power button down for 10 - 15 seconds. Plug the ac adapter back in, but do not put the battery in yet. Boot the computer, then shut it back down. Put the battery back in then boot it again. It should recognize the system now.

Laptop is turning on and off

Remove the AC adapter (Charger)

PROPER method is to disconnect the power cord of the AC adapter, from power; THEN unplug the AC adapter from the laptop.

Same thing in reverse to plug the AC adapter back in.
AC adapter is plugged into laptop, THEN AC adapter is plugged into power.

Unplugging the AC adapter from the laptop, while being plugged into power; can cause a Voltage Spike.

You may get away with it for years, and several laptops; and have no problems.

However it only takes ONCE, to fry out the SMD fuses, Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitors, and Power MOSFET's, on the laptop motherboard's DC to DC circuit.

Jus sayin'.

Moving on........

AC adapter removed, remove the Battery.
Press the Power On button in, and hold in for a count of 10 seconds.
Let go.
Do this procedure 2 more times.

(Draining residual power)

Reinstall the Battery. Attach the AC adapter, plug AC adapter into power. Let the Battery charge 24 hours.
Then turn the laptop on, and tell me what happened.

I can't get my dell inspiron to power on. I will charge the battery using the wall charger but will not come on. What can I try?

Try this if will help.

Remove battery and unplug the ac adapter from laptop.

Without the power sources hold down the power button for 10 seconds.

Check the ac adapter from wall power socket if ac adapter LED is ON.

Plug back in the ac adapter to laptop then check the LED from the ac adapter if it stayed on.

If ac adapter LED turned off right after you plug in the ac adapter to laptop then you need to replace the ac adapter, motherboard and power daughter board.

Hold down the D key then Press Power Button once. Check if color display will appear in the screen.

if the ac adapter stays on you and still no power indicator from the laptop you need to replace motherboard and power daughter board.

Hope this helps.

My Gateway computer is plugged in but not charging. The ac adapter is brand new. Why?

Try this- Unplug the laptop, take out the battery, and hold the power button down for 30-45 seconds. After that, put your battery back in, plug in the AC adapter and turn it on. It's usually the solution in your type problem

It just wont turn on i have checked the power lead and its ok its an acer aspire 5050 laptop

Hi. I would suggest you double check the ac adapter if the powercord is properly attach to it ot also you might want to try powerdraining or powercycling your computer. To do this you must turn off your laptop then remove the battery and unplug the ac adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds while the battery and ac adapter is out, after that place back the battery and plugin the ac adapter and try turning on your laptop, if this doesnt work then try power draining it again and just use the ac adapter or just plug it in without the battery then try again turning it on. If it still has the power issue then try a known good ac adapter so that you could double check that it is not an ac adapter issue or a battery issue. If all that trouble shooting step doesnt work then you could also try calling acer tech support to help you on your issue if your machine or laptop is still under warranty they would help you fix it by sending that laptop to there depot without any charge. Hope this Helps

It won't turn on

Hi. Try theses simple steps:

Remove the Battery
Remove the AC Adapter
Press/hold down power button for 10 seconds
Plug AC Adapter in and turn the computer on
If the system doesn't turn on still then there's a problem with your motherboard. and it might need replacement.

Power will not turn on

Power drain pc first. Remove battery and unplug Ac adapter. Then press and hold power button for 15-20 sec. Then put back in battery and ac adapter. Try if it will turn on. If not, try one at a time, battery and ac adapter to turn pc on. If it turns on with battery only, possible ac adapter issue. Try a different outlet to plug it in. If still no go, try a different ac adapter. If it doesnt work still, possibly it is a motherboard issue.

My mom can not turn on here laptop

Hi:
You might want to resubmit your problem, with more details, but some general things to check are:

1) Is the laptop battery charged, or is the laptop plugged in ?

2) Remove the battery, unplug the AC Adapter, then hold the power switch down for 10 seconds, then put the battery back in , connect the AC Adapter and see if it turns on

3) Remove the battery, unplug AC adapter, hold power button down for 10 seconds, and then plug in the AC adapter, see if it turns on.

If all of the above fails to help, You most likely need to take the laptop into a shop for further troubleshooting.
