Question about HP Compaq Presario C769US Notebook

1 Answer

Compaq Presario C769US PC Laptop heats up.

Lower left, just below keyboard, gets VERY hot after PC has been on for a couple of hours. It's usually on all day, but I do shut it down if I'm not going to use it for a couple of hours. It is cool again when I reboot. I don't remember it running hot when I bought it - September '08 I believe it was.

    Dear mbonnstetter,

Thanks so much! Amazing how we forget to search all around, therefore overlooking the obvious.

I responded to someone who has the same laptop as me, who couldn't find the webcam. If the persons' pc really is the same model, it's literally right in front of our eyes! So I was able to help that person with as obvious a possible solution as you have helped me.. My dad used to say "if it had been a bear it woulda bit ya". It appears that one heat sink is plugged with dust. Surprise, surprise. I wll look into the cooling unit, though.

Again, thanks much. I think you just saved me a bunch of cash :)

    Steve

Right under that area of the keyboard there is a heat sink. If you look in the bottom of your laptop, in that area you will see a vent (and another towards the upper area of the bottom of the laptop). These vents are to keep the internal devices cool.

You can buy a laptop cooler online or in the store

Hope that helps!!

My toshiba computer will not shut down

Have you tried going to start in the bottom left hand corner of the screen then clicking the little button, shut down. Or find the power button on your computer, it is usually below a laptops screen, above the keyboard, hold the button down until the light for power goes out.

Spilled water on acer aspire 15 inch laptop

Bill:

Drying the keyboard with a hair dryer was not a good idea... Under the keys are layers of mylar with the circuits for the keys printed on them. If the mylar got hot it wrinkled and the keyboard may have been ruined. Try the keyboard after the batteries have dried, and if it does squirrely things, you'll probably have to replace the keyboard.

Brightness screen fn

Many computer users spend long hours online every day and don\'t realize that looking at a bright laptop screen can be hard for the eyes. If you spend a lot of time in front of a laptop screen, consider reducing the brightness of the screen at the earliest opportunity. There\'s a quick and easy way to perform this task so you can save your eyes as well as your battery power.

Press and hold the "Fn" key on the laptop keyboard. T his key is usually located at the top right or bottom left of the keyboard. Press the "Up Arrow" and "Down Arrow" keys, which are usually located in the lower right of the keyboard, to increase or reduce the brightness of your laptop screen. Adjust the level so that you can gaze comfortably at the screen without any glare. Disconnect the battery charger from your laptop and repeat the above procedure. On some laptops, the screen brightness varies considerably, depending on whether or not the device is charged.

The evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the back of the freezer

Hotpoint 18.2 cu ft refrigerator -water pooling on the floor

Was it the tubeing that drains the defrost water that you cleaned. Did you clean it at the top where it would be stopped up with ice. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

The computer turn on for a while then screen turn back off

you say you left it on all night and then when you came to turn it on.so who turned it of or why did it go off ?
you probably have missing sys files in which case ur gonna have to reinstall os to replace sys files( you aint the first,it happens many times for many different reasons)
usually with incorrect shut down ,especially when shut down when updating files;trouble is most of the time you dont know its updating cos its in the background.
boot up with os in cd tray choose install ,not repair .system checks disk and detects existing os ...now you can choose repair unless you opt for fresh install...that choice is yours.either way get you back in windows but repair gets you back before things went wrong with all software/files previously downloaded or saved intact.
