Well the thing is i didnt just get my ipod its porbably 4-5 months old! im not sure if i still have the warrinty but most likely ill try that my ipod is annoying me its like my best friend. well my problem specifically is ok so one day i was listening to my ipod (the ipod nano chromatic 8GB yellow) then all of a sudden it turned off. So i used the Technique that usually works for me, holding the centre button and menu button at the same times making sure im holding the menu button on the outside. and toggle with the hold button. it didnt work. then i thought it died. but i rememebered it had a full battery and just to make sure i connected it to my dock. nothing i connected it to the computer and itunes popped up and it told me "iTunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with iTunes." so then i click ok and then click on restore and it says "Are you sure you want to restore the iPod to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased. and the newest version of the iPod software will be installed." so i clicked Restore and Update and it said "extracting software" and it loaded then it said "restoring ipod" and it loaded then it said "your ipod has been restored to factory settings. please leave ipod connected and iTunes will connect." so i clicked "ok" then it said iTunes needs to prepare your iPod for recovery. please leave your ipod connected" so i clicked continue and it said "preparing ipod for recovery" and it loaded then my ipod started beeping twice then it said "iTunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. you must restore this iPod before it can be used with itunes" and thats exactly what it said at the beginning! my iPod is like my best friend and i cant lose it!

If its new, I suggest returning/send it to apple if you still have your warranty,as you have tried restoring, and resetting. Therefore it could be a hardware issue.

Also, try putting on mp3s on your ipod, transferring it to a different computer and syncing with itunes there, and see if the problem persists, as it might have something to do with a faulty usb port (or drivers), or faulty communication with the computer/motherboard. I've once seen my older computer currupting flash drives and sd cards, for example.

The freezing could be due to currupt files, which faulty usb communication can cause, or something in your ipods hardware is not working like it should. So once you have tried syncing from a different computer, and it still doesn't work, I would try to return it, or use the warranty (if applicable).

Make sure you restore/format before syncing with the 'other' computer.

Hold menu + center, when the ipod reboots/shows apple logo, move your finger from menu to play/pause, while keeping your other on center. This opens disk mode, plug it into your computer and go into my computer, right click your ipod and format it to fat32. Then restore with itunes.

Also Delete all your recent songs from you itunes library, you can do this by going to you library (not playlists) and right clicking where it says title/artist/time, and make sure date added is checked. then click on date added (you might have to scroll left/right) and get the latest songs at the top. Delete the songs up until where you estimate the problem started. This could be because of a song that messing with the ipod software, you can put the songs back on the ipod but make a playlist of them, and play them one by one on your nano and see if any cause a problem, and then delete accordingly, if necessary.

I would suggest you take it in to the apple store for repair already. Most often this type of problem is hardware related already.

I have an ipod model a1199. i was wondering if you can use a newer ipod touch charger for it? and if not what kind of charger does it use?

Charge an iPod Nano Without a Charger
If you've misplaced or broken the charger that came with your iPod Nano, you might think you need to purchase a new one in order to continue using your Mp3 player.
However, there is a way that you can continue enjoying your iPod without having to purchase a new charger.
As long as you have a USB cord and a computer, you can charge your iPod without having the charger.

Locate the USB cord that came with your iPod Nano package.
It is the same cord that you use in order to sync or transfer music.
Plug the small end into your iPod Nano.

Plug the other, larger end into your computer's USB port.
Choose "Do Nothing" when your computer presents the dialogue box to let you choose what to do with the hardware or USB connection.
Leave your Nano plugged into your computer for at least 4 hours to charge.
Unplug your iPod Nano when charging is complete.
Charge an iPod Without the Charger
Many iPod owners purchase a charging unit that plugs into a standard wall outlet to recharge the iPod's battery.
However, the iPod wall charger is not included with new purchases, so consumers must either purchase a separate charger or find a way to charge their iPod using other means.
Here's a simple method to charge your iPod using your computer.

Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of your iPod.
Plug the other end of the iPod USB cable into a free USB port on your Mac or PC computer.

Open the iTunes program by clicking on the icon in the Dock on a Mac or using the Start menu on a PC.
Click on the name of your iPod under the "Devices" heading in the main iTunes window.
Click on the "Sync" button to synchronize your iPod with your computer data.
While the iPod is syncing, the power from the USB port on your computer will charge your iPod's battery.

Unplug your iPod from the computer once the battery is fully charged. - view=detail&id=8DEA58C0DAF392E29FCB03D9C
This one should be ok.

When i plug in my chromatic it wont connect

it could be a USB port problem or the cord is just bad. first check to see if it is the USB port. If it works they YAY! if not, check to see if you still have warranty on your laptop/PC. if you don't the hehe your fault... Next check to see if it is the cord. you can do this by plugging someone elses Ipod into a different PC/Laptop. if neitherof these are your problem the go to customer service at apple of bestbuy(Apple recommened)
