The orange plastic clip that holds by battery down popped off when I push on it release the battery. It flew behind a desk system that will have to be taken apart to find. The battery seems to be working as long as the back is closed but I have no idea how long it will work this way. I too am searching for a replacement part.

If you end up giving up on the camera, I will buy it from you. My latch works fine, although I think extracting it and replacing it will be risky work.

My Coolpix S6100 battery latch broke. Can I get a replacement?

As of Sept 2 2016 there are several for sale on eBay, for about 7 dollars to about 12 dollars.
Search for "battery door", not battery latch.

My flash is not working what could i do without buying an eternal flash

Depending on what you broke, an external flash might not even work. The best solution is to send it to Nikon for repair. There number is 1-800-645-6687 9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday. The alternative is to find a local camera repair man. This is not a do-it-yourself job.

Battery Exhausted

You have to replace the batteries.
Here is a link that leads you to download the manual in english language for free. When you open the manual, you would see instructions on how to replace the batteries and the type of batteries which are compatible with your device.
Also, if you do not want to go to the manual, here is a step by step instruction on how the battery should be replaced.
1. Switch off your camera and open the battery/memory card chamber.(ensure that the power light and monitor have gone off before opening the chamber).
2. After opening the chamber, slide the orange battery latch upward and remove the battery using your hand.
3. Use the new battery to push or slide the orange latch upward and make sure that the positive and negative terminals of the battery are on the left and right side respectively(doing otherwise would damage your camera)
4. After pushing the battery in completely, the orange latch would lock into place and then you can close the battery/memory card chamber.
You should charge the new battery for a couple of hours before turning it on.
The device uses a rechargeable Li-ion battery EN-EL10.
If you need links on where you can purchase the batteries, you can comment here and i will send you some links.
Hope this solution was helpful? Please comment for more information. Thank you for using fixya.

The orange plastic clip that holds in the battery broke.

use some tape, or put a piece of something on top of the battery, when you close the battery door and latch it, it should hold the battery in place. That orange clip just holds the battery low enough that it comes in contact with the terminals at the bottom of the compartment.
Hope this helps

Camera battery clip

Well, I got the latch and spring back into my DX7630, and so far (half an hour after) so good.

To do this, I had a replacement latch from U.S. Camera ($10 total, latch plus shipping and handling) and the original spring on hand. I took all of the eight screws holding the camera body together. I also pulled off the "rubber" hand grip on the front of the camera. I'm not sure if that was necessary or not, but in doing it I broke off one of the "claws" that secure the grip.

Then I turned the camera so the battery door was on top, opened the door, and gently pried the camera body halves apart. I used "square" wooden toothpicks to hold the body apart so I could get at the latch area. (The battery was not in the camera during all this work.)

There are two small slots in the camera body where the latch is held and pivots. The latch pivots can be slipped into those slots if the toothpicks have the body wedged open widely enough.

The hard part of the assembly is getting that latch spring properly mounted. The spring fits over the rod of the latch. The spring wire has two ends: one is shorter. The shorter-end goes behind the latch on the memory card side. The longer-end makes the job difficult. It must be held so that the spring is under tension while the battery side latch pivot is slipped into its slot, then the memory card side latch pivot is slipped into its slot. The longer spring-end presses against the camera body.

The latch and spring only flew away into the darkness of this room once during the effort, and that happened because I tested the latch a few times before closing the camera body. The body halves should be closed before doing any latch testing.

I put all the screws back into the camera snapped the rubber hand grip back in, put in a battery and a memory card, and at this writing, all seems to be working as designed. Hooray!

Battery door and latch broken

Have used a 5-cent nylon cable tie for years on our CoolPix 990 and it never has failed, and still allows for battery changes. Looks a little funny to some, but is very functional. Don't know if your camera's design is similar enough for this to work, but it may worth trying.
