BOTH OF MY UNIDEN HANDHELD PHONES SAY, 'OUT OF RANGE.' WHAT CAN I DO TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THY ARE MODEL #DCX750. BOTH HAVE DIAL TONE AND ELECTRICAL POWER. WILL BE AWAITING YOUR REPLY. THANKS....SEND TO path@floodcity.net

    this is a uniden/answering machine setup with 2 handheld units. There is no 'page' button on base. I get the message'Direct link mode--room monitor-handset' when i hit MENU button on phone. then 'to enter Direct link mode press (select)..If i press (select)...Directlink complete.......goes back to handset #2........but, when dialing it still reads "OUT OF RANGE"> WHAT IS GOING ON?

What does "Out of Range" mean on my  phone?
answers :---- The handsets are reading out of range because they have lost connection with the base. This happens mostly during peak power demands or power outages, but can also happen when the phone is unplugged for any amount of time. This can also cause, at times, the answering machine to stop picking up calls. To remedy this issue, reset the phone system. Please follow the instructions below:To reset the phone:
1. Disconnect the power adapter, phone line, and remove all batteries from the base and all handsets. Leave it disconnected for 30 seconds to reset the base.
2. Place the batteries in the handsets first and then plug in the power adapter and phone line. Do not place the batteries back in the base yet.
3. Put the handset in the charge cradle.
4. It may take up to 1 minute for the "Out of Range" to clear from the display.
5. Once the "Out of Range" is cleared from the handset place the back up batteries back into the base.

NOTE: If the handset is still not working properly please deregister and then register all handsets to the base.

Ok, remove all batteries if any and unplug the entire unit and let stand for 5 mins. this will preform a hard reset. after five minutes, reinsert the batteries if any and plug the unit back into the socket. this will fix the software scramble.

Try re-sync the handset with the base, you need to press the button on the base.

Try also unplugging phone base from power and if battery is removable, also removing handset battery.

If that does not work, then either the handset or the base may be faulty.

Check out the internal battery and get the frequency checked by connecting the external antenna at its top to check out the range.

If you can't hear the dial tone, try substituting another phone to detect it. Also, if your Uniden phone is defective it can disable the dial tone when connected to the line.

Check the phone connection. Try another phone, Is there a dial tone?

Unavailable and no dial tone usually means that there is a bad wire between the base and the wall or the wall jack is bad.

Dial Tone but won't call out.


I just had the same problem. Try unplugging the plug from the electrical outlet for the home(base) unit and plugging back in. Fixed my problem right away.
