Question about Toshiba Satellite A60 Notebook
Hi. I have a toshiba equium l20-198 laptop running windows xp home. The dvd burner wont burn reliably. When trying to burn dvds using nero 7 the results are unreadable by laptop or standalone dvd player. Error log says there is a write failure. Device manager says matshita dvd-ram uj-841s (firmware 1.5) is ok yet toshiba online diagnostic tool gives matshita device a 'skip' result when tested. Attempts to update driver are met with result that ive already got the most suitable driver installed.
Should i just install a new dvd burner drive and save myself more headaches?
Any insights/advice much appreciated. Regards. David field
There could be 4 things that's wrong that I can think of.
1. try this first, go and force xp to take your updated drivers by telling it to install from a specific location->don't search. I will choose the driver to install->have disk->have disk->point it to the driver's location-> continue and it should install that specific driver.
2. the software you're using to burn with isn't playing nicely with your drive. try using cdburnerxp which is a free burning software and test the results of those burns.
3. the firmware on your drive is corrupted(happens from time to time). try installing a new firmware from matshita's website. remember, firmware is different from drivers.
4. the dvd drive itself is busted. try using an external drive to burn a dvd(if you have one available) or switch the drive out and see if that fixes things.
after looking at some forums, seems like this drive is ripe with issues but hopefully it's not a hardware issue in your case.
hope that helps.
