Question about JVC TH-M505 System

1 Answer

What are these parts and where can i get them, subwoofer turns of

I have this 4 year JVC TH-M505 surround sound, but it is broken and i do not have any sound. When i turn on the system, sub woofer turns on and turns off. It started like 1 month ago. In the beginning sub woofer was turning off every couple hours, then about every 10 min, and now it turns of as soon i turn it on.
So i opened the subwoofer, and found couple parts that are burned out and smell a little bit. I took pictures and took them to radio shack, but the guys could not help me. I believe problem started because my braker was constantly tripping, like 5 times a week.
Please fallow the links where you can see pictures of the parts. I would really appriciate, if you guys could tell me what are the parts L2901 and Q2902, and where could i get them. Was looking online but nothing really comes on.

Did you get you JVC working again? My sound works in DVD mode only and no sounds comes out when I use FM radio or VCR. I was wondering if I blew one of the channels or something.

Your looking at a capacitor (big round thing) and transistor (little black thing)

the y-221 on the capacitor should be a voltage designation, how to identify the transistor, well, i cant see it good enuf to say.

  • Here is a list of cables for your unit from Crutchfield's.

  • If your looking for the s pin DIN cable from the sub you can get that anywhere. The 8 pin DIN is a standard cord the same across the board. Here are a couple to choose from.

JVC Home Theater System M505 The subwoofer will not come on and it appears that the system (speakers) will not work at all until it runs thru the subwoofer system.

Wiggle on the long round cable connected to the Sub woofer. If the SW turns on, open it and solder the connector or change the connector

Subwoofer shuts down

Check the connection in the back of the sub, where your wire plugs in from the DVD unit, the connector is loose in the unit itself. Had mine replaced and is doing the same thing again

Sounds like your original and this sub have bad amps. The amp for the sub is not the same as the amp for the other speakers. The old unit has a dead amp and this new one is on the way out. (Pulling too much current on high bass)

Subwoofer not powering up

I could either be the sub or the main unit. The main unit actually sends a signal to the sub to turn it on so if that circuit is bad in the main unit the sub is never going to come on. I've also seen bad cables (You'd be amazed at how stubborn people can be when din connectors don't cooperate).
