Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV27FS100 horizontal lines across top part of screen

Check and replace all electrolytic capacitors in the vertical output section circuit. There will be 5 or 6 of them to replace. Replace all at one time. The fault you describes here is technically known as 'vertical retrace lines'. Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in 'Flip card' option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the [Sidebar] tag, at the top left corner of the display window. It will make search easy. There are more than 990 posts to different brand TVs now. Sometimes, you might get some more details from there.

TV has a line across middle from left to right

It depends what part was damaged in Horizontal section. Here in Philippines labor costs for this size of TV is ranging from $50 to $150.

I have white lines on the top of my tv. It is Orion, maybe 3 years old.

This is an easy repair if you've ever soldered and would not be too costly for a repair shop to do it for you. The problem is a bad Vertical Output IC (usually mounted on an aluminum heat sink with the part on it labeled LA78?? ) and 1 or 2 bad capacitors. Some times you can even fix the problem by re-soldering the contacts of the IC- To find the IC follow the 4 wires that come from the Yoke (which is a contained coil of wires slipped over the neck of the picture tube(s)) back to the board. 2 of the wires go to the horizontal o/p and 2 to the Vertical o/p the thinner gauge wires are for the vertical.

How do you fix a white horizontal line across top of Orion TV?

Hello eatkinson,

This denotes a problem with the vertical deflection circuit. This is more then likely the result of the vertical coupling capacitor failing. You will need the schematic diagram of the TV to find the capacitor in question. it is located between the vertical output stage and the vertical deflection winding of the yoke transformer. In addition check the continuity of the vertical winding of the yoke transformer this can cause the same problem. In any event the problem is that the vertical deflection signal is not getting to the yoke transformer or the yoke transformer is malfunctioning.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

The faint white lines at the top of the screen is the warning that the pump-up capacitor in the vertical output circuit is going bad and the output itself is about to short out. When the TV stops working, the vertical output IC has finally shorted out. Replacing the vertical output IC, the pump-up capacitor and possibly a small value resistor next to the flyback (B+ for the v-out) should bring the set back to life.

POP and noothiing

yes it can still be fixed! the pop sound you've heard maybe came from a blown capacitor in the vertical deflection circuits. this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

Orion 27" tv

hi your problem could be two different things , the first one is that it mught have a cold solder in the vertical or a bad capacitor in the same area.
