I have the same issue. I was listening to mine on my ipod, it just stopped and went to protect screen (which it had been doing quite frequently anyway) usually just pressing the reset button would stop it, but this time, it wouldn't come off the protect screen. I've tried the wireing to no avail, and have tried fuses, and everything else. I spent a lot of money on this deck for it not to work. I've had it for less then 6 months. Not very happy at this time.

need more info, however my first thought would be to clean the EYE. Gingerly, use a long medical swap with as pure alcohol as you can get and swab the eye, glass looking thing inside near the Spindle, be very gentle and use one direction..

The receiver is in protect mode either due to heat or crossed speaker wires. Heat would take a while to shut off and a while to turn back on. The speaker wire short would be detected immediately.

JVC KD-R610 is stuck in Protect mode

Try disconnecting your battery, reconnecting it, and resetting your stereo. If that doesn't work, the constant power (yellow wire) or ignition wire (red wire) may have come in contact with ground or isn't properly connected. Make sure everything is connected properly and try resetting your stereo. If it is still flashing "protect", the unit needs servicing Contact JVC Customer Care Center at: 800-252-5722.

Why does my radio say protect

Protect indicates that there is a short or a grounding problem usually within the speakers or the speaker wiring. Locate and press the reset button (pinhole). If protect comes back then disconnect all speakers, reset and connect them back one at a time until protect shows up again. This will help you find out where the unwanted DC signal is coming from. If protect shows up when all speakers are disconnected, then it may need service.

Display shows 'PROTECT' and is blocked

If protect is coming up on the display, it means the system is detecting a short somewhere on one of the speakers and so is turning the amp off to avoid damage.
Check all the connections at the back of the amp to ensure they are not shorting, and at the back of each speaker, if nothing is found there, check each wire for damage, or a bare wire touching the body of the car

Protect message on screen

When 'Protect' shows up when you turn on a kenwood deck it means there is a speaker short somewhere that it is detecting. Make sure all connections are insulated and that none are accidentally touching the chassis of the vehicle.

Protect on the screen.

PROTECT shows up on your screen when one of the speaker wires is grounding out on something. Check all the speaker wire connections and re-insulate any that may be suspicious. Look behind the player and check those and you may have to check at the speakers as well. If your car has an amp or subwoofer installed, check at the connections there as well. After finding your grounding issue hit reset on the radio and you will be up and running.. Happy listening. K

Protect:- The speaker wire has a short circuit, or touches the chassis of the vehicle, then the Protect function is activated. Wire or insulate the cable properly and then press the reset button. If the "Protect" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service centre.
