Unplug all cables and disconnect power for five minutes.

Interface error means that there is either a bad cable , or that the input board is faulty.

To start unplug all cables, including power cable, wait ten minutes, and then re-connect the power cable only, if the error disappears, then one of the connection cables used is bad, if not , then there is an internal fault.

If you also have an USB device connected to your Memorex, like a memory stick, that can also be the cause for the problem, you get "interface error" whenever you have a data communication problem, and this is often caused by cables and connected devices.

When i play my disk in the phillips dvd player the picture comes out blue. I have this problem with all the cd i try to play. Is it because I have a hdmi tv?

HDMI (High Definition Media Interface) is just a specific kind of interface, a connection type and can't really influence color.
No knowing which interface you are using, it's hard to make any suggestions but some connection types can suffer from an impedance mismatch which can cause color problems.
Sit down with your manual for each of these to see which kinds of connections you have that are common to both and try others you have to see if another type can improve the color problem you have.

Dead power supply.

Faulty power-supply symptoms:

The front panel display and buttons are completely nonfunctional and appear dead. The unit will do nothing more than display the following messages on the TV screen:

Interface error
(and or)
Interface error! Turn off the power

If a DVD or VHS tape was inserted prior to the error occurring, you won't be able to eject either from that point further. They'll remain stuck inside the unit until you've completed the repair detailed below.

No power anymore

It's not a problem with your Direct TV upgrade. We had the same problem, and evenutally the unit refused to even power on. We had received an interface error message, which instructed us to power off the unit. It never came back on.

Ditch the unit and get a new one. You will be glad you did.

Okay...sounds like you have a lot of signal splitting as well as devices that may also weaken your signal. With digital cable, you won't see snow or what would be a dead give-away to a weak signal. Only analog signals do that. Digital signals give you crisp clear picture or they drop out.

Try taking the cable directly from the wall to the DVD-Recorder. If you are able to watch channels and manipulate the device, then you can start from there as the source is good and the recorder is good.

Try to place the DVD-Recorder after the first splitter and see if you still receive stable signal. You'll probably need to leave the unit in this part of your A/V chain.

It really sounds like you need a signal amplifier for all the splitting you've done, or to re-work your A/V stack into something more manageable. It is entirely possible that the built-in tuner of the new DVD-Recorder is not as sensitive as the old unit.
