Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
The same message comes up even with putting a different game in,the disk could not be read, just started doing this
Did you try cleaning the laser lens? q-tip + small amount of rubbing alcohol, then use other end of q-tip to dry it. or you could use a laser lens cleaner for video game systems. hope this helps :D

Whatever you do, do NOT touch the pickup (eye/lens) that reads the disk. go to a store (best buy, gamestop, walmart, eb games ect.) and ask if they carry lens cleaners. lens cleaners are disks that are disigned to clean the lens of your ps2/3. they have very small soft brushes on the disk. when you run the disk, those brushes clean the lens of the console
----hope this helps

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.
There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
