Replace waste cartridge on Xerox Phaser 7400

I have a Xerox Phaser 7400 that has been refurbished so it is not under warranty by manufacturer. It is a network printer, so has multiple users. The problem is that it stopped printing, with a message saying that waste cartridge needs to be replaced. I shook out the cartridge, but printer still insisted I replace the cartridge. I bought a brand new waste cartridge and installed it, but it is still saying to replace waste cartridge. I don't know if this particular detail helps, but I also noticed at one point of messing with the waste cartridge, that a spring came loose out of nowhere. I have no idea what the spring went to, or what it was a part of. Did that have anything to do with the errors I'm getting? Please help. All the printing in our workplace is at a halt until we can get this figured out. Thanks in advance.

Is there a specific place in the menu I need to go to? I'm having trouble finding where I can reset the waste container as stated.

Well, I managed to find the spring, and that's when I discovered that the (white) gear that rotates with the waste cartridge gear somehow broke off. The spring sits behind it, and that's how it came loose. I'm almost sure that's the problem right there. Thanks for the helpful insight!

How do I replace the duct drive assembly?

  • rambler1968 Apr 01, 2009

We have the same problem as above - the waste cartridge error is flashing. We have replaced the cartridge and in the process a 'spring' and white plastic 'gear' piece has popped off. We've tried various configurations to solve the error, but it doesn't go away. Can someone please tell me where exactly the pieces need to go to make the printer work. I've phoned Xerox, but because the printer is out of warranty they will only send an engineer out and this is charged at £330 +VAT. Which seems a bit expensive for such a relatively small problem.

    Please help if possible

I just fixed mine. You need part #604K47890 Gear Coupling Assembly Kit. Cheapest I found was $6.99 at plus $13.95 s/h. Remove the waste cartridge & you can see the white plastic gear. I tried to disassemble the printer (using service manual) in order to replace this part. Good luck. It looks like you need to take the WHOLE thing apart. Easier method is to get a drill or dremel & grind away the thin metal to make the whole slightly larger. Just be careful with the dust/particles. I did this & it worked perfectly.

In the menu system of the Xerox printer there is a screen that will let you reset the waste container.

I'm sorry i missed the part about the spring. The spring controls the message you are seeing. Look where you replace the waste container. look for small hole in part where the spring came from. There should be another part with another hold the spring in place.

Why is my Phaser 7400 printing a solid pink page? The Transfer unit is half pink. Is this why?

This may be a high voltage problem.
Am not familiar with this machine but is a generic fault.
Ensure contacts to drum/cartridge are clean.
If possible, unplug machine, open up and ensure all high voltage connections are good.
Good luck.

I have a Xerox 7300 that I started using Media Sciences toner in. I have had to replace 3 imaging units recently because they have locked up. Now 2 are locked up again. Media Sciences says they have not...

Xerox says instead that the user should never used non original or refurbished cartridges, as in a number of cases this had been proven capable of damaging parts like the imaging unit.

I am sorry for Media Science, but they do not even have permission given by Xerox to build compatible cartridges (Xerox Corporation Filed a Patent Violation Lawsuit Against Media ).

Cartridges that have not built and tested with full printer manufacturer cooperation cannot be free of problems.

Also, I know that the 7300 is probably out of warranty, but using this cartridges on a new printer may invalidate the warranty.
Media Science does not make itself responsible in case one of their cartridge has damaged a printer.

My suggestion is to use original cartridges in future.

Best regards.

Phaser 7300N - Where is the waste toner container?

That machine does not have a waste toner container like the xerox phaser 7400. What it does is all the waste toner is cleaned at the IBT belt. If you remove your IBT belt part number 016-2000-00 you will see there is a plastic container at the end and that is where the wast toner is.

We have a Phaser 7400. It continues to give us

If you've already changed out the toner cartridge and the problem persists, then it could be several other parts that are either defective, dirty or blocked.

You may want to contact a certified Xerox technician and have them look at the Imaging Unit Agitator Bar and the Low Toner Sensors for Cyan/Magenta. There could also be a faulty toner supply motor.

Phaser 7400 not printing red

I would suspect you do not have drive to the red imaging unit area. A gear may have fractured, a motor not runing, which would normally give you a fault code, or a clutch is slipping not driving the red components.
