On a walk-behind mower, the oil drain plug can usually be found on the underneath side of the deck. The drain plug usually has a square head.

SOURCE: can't find oil drain plug on eager-1 mower

Disconnect the sparkplug andf ground it. Turn the push mower on it side and scrap away all the grass from under the deck and look for the plug. If you cannot find one, drain the oil out from  the fill tube into a pan, buy turning it onto it's side into the pan.

SOURCE: craftsman eager-1 lawnmower will not start

Hi, The first thing I always check for is fresh fuel (less than a couple of months old) old unleaded may well be fine in your car but low compression engines fitted to garden equipment need fresh fuel. next thing to check is that the choke flap is closing fully, dont rely on the position of the control lever, remove the airfilter cover and see that the flap is fully closed, if it's cracked open just a little bit it will stop engine starting ( unless the filter is really dirty) another thing to check is that the blade is tightly secured, on direct drive mowers the blade acts as a flywheel. did you hit an obstruction the last time you used it, if you did you may have sheared the flywheel key(poor spark on points ignition or good spark but timing out of sync on electronic ignition. hope this helps, regards Tony (England UK)

Alright, I found the breakdown and it is not a very good one. I think I know the part number that you need, but I would feel more comfortable if you would look at it yourself, because the last thing you need is confusion.

You can also purchase this part right from the link. Their picture shows the spring actually attached to a small rod on the ordering page. Let me know if this helps.

HOW TO ADJUST THE CUTTING BLADE TENSION OF THE MOWER BELT.

There is no adjustment on the Craftsman mower belt tension. The tension is maintained by a spring. If the belt is to loose you either have the wrong belt or something is broken like a mandrel housing that holds the fixed pulleys in place.

Hi, got a Craftsman 20 Hp 42 inch cut , the Deck will not lay flat, it is always on a angle. any ideas ? No matter what the cut height is set at.

Hi tubbed,

Most of these decks are held on at three points. Two are in line 90 degrees from front to back. The other is attached to the height adjust lever.

The first two are adjustable to change the type of angle problems you are having. Make sure you have the engine off when checking. Adjust until the desired angle is reached.

Also, if the model your problem is categorized under does not match your model, the cause of the angle and the solution may be different.

Best regards
Mike

I have a twin cylinder Craftsman rider 42" cut with the 20 HP Briggs engine. The motor wants to race out of control, tried adjusting the governor spring and also the governor shaft, if I put a spring on...

Sounds like the governor isn't activating at all. Not sure if yours if air operated or centrifugal. It's dangerous to let the motor over-rev - likely will destroy it - so don't try to mow with the souped-up engine.
If you can't find the problem in the governor itself, your approach of hooking up a temporary spring between the throttle arm and a fixed point, in the direction that closes the throttle, could work. Then you might be able to regulate the engine speed with the throttle lever for today at least. If the temporary spring isn't strong enough, wind a paper clip across one or more of the spring's spiral turns to compress them; this will 'shorten' the spring. Good luck!

The high speed needle valve needs adjusting and it takes a special splined tool to adjust it. I currently am trying to find where I can purchase the tool to adjust the high and low carburator screws.

Look for your model number under the seat. Sears website is www.searspartsdirect.com. It sounds like a bearing may be wearing out, or a spring on one of the brake arms is not holding the brake arms off the pulleys;
Or an idler pulley is not holding tension on the belt.
There is not adjustment I know of, just replacing worn parts. Hope this helps. Good day.
