Question about HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I am having trouble setting up the fax for a HP L7780. The book says it needs a filter but when I hook it up to a line with a filter it still just rings and rings. The machine shows that a call is coming in but it doesn't answer. I have it on auto answer any ideas?

L7780 is not receiving FAXE'S. Only Some of it ??

This is strange. Sounds like noise is in the line. Try searching the line for bad spots or replace the line. The ends could have corrosion on them also. The wires are most likely copper and the corrosion will be green. Check the box on the side of your house also. I would have the phone company check for noise in the line for you. Good luck.

Our L7780 has a message saying phone off the hook. It doesn't have a phone! No faxes can come through, the phone rings, but doesn't pick up automatically as it used to.

Double check every phone that is on the same line, there is another device on the line that isn't hanged up properly and throwing things off.

My HP 7780 always says phone off hook. When I disconnect the phone line for awhile and reinstall it faxes once properly then the phone off hook message reappears.

I use a VOIP line and get the same error msg. Here's what I do- I dial the fax number with the line unplugged (hence no off-hook message), press "start Fax", and as soon as I hear the fax machine "Click" to pickup the line, I put the line in the machine. Works every time!

The fax will not answer even though I have it set to answer after 2 rings. It is on a dedicated line. Help!

There is a check box that must be checked in order to enable automatic answering.

Also, you have to have the phone line plugged into the Officejet machine

My fax machine is hooked to my main line, how do I keep my fax machine from picking up all my calls? Do I have to set my fax to more rings?

The only real solution is to have a different number/line for your fax or a special phone exchange.

If you're just having problems getting to the phone in time and you're not worried about people leaving voicemail you could increase the number of rings to the maximum but it will still intercept anything that hits that point.

Probably not what you were hoping to hear but unfortunately it's not a high powered system.

Hope it helps.

Can't receive a fax

There are some settings that you need to change.

You need to turn off the following:
Error Correction Mode
Auto Reduction

to get to these options you need to go to the setup menu by pressing the setup button
then scroll to advanced fax settings and select it and you will find the options listed under it

You also need to check the fax speed under Advanced fax settings.
set it to medium.
hope this will help you :)

Slow Faxes

Slow faxes would have to do with the fax machine itself or the line quality of the line that is connect to this fax, noise on the line will do this and will also give error messages on the other end so check this..
