This always happens on mine when the batteries are low or taking them out while lens is extended. What I had to do was take it apart and manually wind back in the lens via the gears that extend it. Hope this helps. Otherwise the camera is rendered useless.

My canon powershot SD 1000 will take outdoor pictures but wont take any with low light and the flash won't work. I see that someone else asked the same question but I can see what advice was offered

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help. Recommend trying the pencil tapping fix listed in the link. It worked on my SD1000 with the same problem.

I bought a new SD card and put it in and the screen display keeps sayd SD card error. Please help.

If you're using an SDHC memory card, the camera doesn't support it according to the specs. If it's the correct card, try another one - you may have a bad one.

You can get the manual from here:-

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Vivitar-3746-Digital-Cameras-manual/id/200ag812/t/2/

As to no images, when you get the manual, there may be a power/battery conserve option which allows you to turn the screen on and off.

I lost my cd for #1609761 (9224)i have pics on the cam i need the software where can i get the software online for free

I would go to the vivitar website. I did not see your model of camera on the downloads, but it also said if you do not see your camera on there you can contact them for support. You never know, they may be able email you the driver or send you a c.d. for free. Good Luck!

Here is their support number I found on their site: US: 1-800-592-9541

Hope this helps!
