Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I bought a Dayton 5K907G 1/4 HP continuous duty, single phase motor from Acklands Grainger. I installed the motor in a downdraft sanding table with a fan blade on it. I had it wired by an electrician for counter clockwise rotation. If the motor has any load on it it runs for 2 seconds and then quits for 10 seconds and back on for 2 seconds. I used a heavy duty extension cord and the motor is grounded. I am wondering if there is an adjustment on the motor for maximum load. The fan blade is rated for a 1/4 HP motor. I took 2 of the 4 blades off of the fan to reduce the load but the motor will still only run for 2 seconds at a time. Any suggestions?

Is the motor a convertible motor that you can wire either 240 or 120 v/ac it sounds like it may be wired for the wrong voltage. let me know thanks Peyton

I thought of something else is the motor very hot when it is running? i'm wondering if it may have a faulty internal thermal overload. this would be unusual but not unheard of. another thing i would check is load voltage. if you have a volt meter check the voltage while the motor is running. if its less than 108 volts it will cause the motor to overheat and shut down as well. Dewalt radial arm saw GW1- Is it single phase or 3 phase

if the plug on the cord fits any other outlet in the house it will be single phase
if the cord is cut , then it will have only 3 wires if it is single phase
( active , neutral and ground )
if it has 4 or more wires it will be 3 phase
most saws running a 200 mm blade or around that size and used for home duty will be single phase
the phase notation will be on the plate attached to the motor of the saw
It will read voltage , amperage, watts or hp, phase and cycles

Is the 4A912B Dayton 10" 1 HP bench grinder 3 phase or 1 phase?

If the plug on the cord has 2 flat prongs and one round one then its 110 VAC single phase. If the motor has 4 wires then I'd suspect 3 phase. The data plate on the motor will tell you for sure.

WIRING DIAGRAM FOR A DAYTON EXH. FAN FOR A GREENHOUSE. tHE FAN GOES TO A THERMOSTAT THEN TO ELECTEICAL BOX

So far, I cannot locate a wiring diagram for an installation. However, this is a single phase "shaded pole" motor.

For a single speed, shaded pole motor, there are only two power wires. For a dual speed motor, a third wire provides a second speed. One wire will be one side of the motor coil(s)...connected to the white power wire. The other wires are the opposite side of one or two motor coils, connected to the black power wire or through a thermostat. A thermostat is simply a temperature operated switch. An additional wire may (should) be a green "grounding" wire.

115v electrical hookup for dayton motor 1TMY6

Dayton manufacturing is owned by WW Grainger
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/search.shtml?searchQuery=1TMY6&op=search&Ntt=1TMY6&N=0&GlobalSearch=true&sst=subset

Contact Grainger 1-800-323-0600
They will have wiring information for each of their products.

The wiring diagram should appear on side of unit.
This 1.5 Hp motor can be wired for 115 or 230 volts

My AO Smith manual would not be specific to your motor.
With AO Smith 115-230V, there are one set of wiring terminals for incoming wires from breaker box. The other wires connect to terminals.
Copy following illustration link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Motor-wiring-500.jpg

Wire and breaker size:
For 120Volt, use 20 amp breaker and 12 gauge wire up to 25 feet.
Over 25 feet up to 100 feet, use 30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wire.
100-150 feet use 8 gauge wire and 40 amp breaker.
150-200 feet use 6 gauge wire and 50 Amp breaker.

I am looking for a multi function relay similar to the Dayton (1)6A855 but with a 240vac input not 120vac input. Can you assist please. Regards Bruce Peters

1) Dayton 6A855 time delay pin timer

Grainger owns Dayton, so you might want to contact Grainger

2) Time delay timers at Grainger:

3) Grainger shows time-delay 8-pin 120 or 240V

Grainger shows 11-pin 120 or 240V
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/DAYTON-Relay-1EJN6?Pid=search

Searching for "11 pin 240Volt delay timer" turned up results:

4) Following pdf shows knob-adjustable 240V delay-on pin timer
https://www.relayspec.com/specs/020050/T1Series.pdf

5) Signaline has delay timers (800) 862-2875

6) SSAC
http://www.ssac.com/standard/ff-tdr1.htm

7) Another pdf with 240V delay pin timers
http://www.askco.com/pdfs/tdd_tud_data.pdf

8) Not wanting to say what already know, but each 240V circuit is made from two out-of-phase 120V lines. Any 240Volt Load can be turned OFF by turning off one of the 120V lines. In this way, the Dayton 120V timer can be used to control 240V load.
Also the 120V Dayton can operate 120V double-pole contactor, and then the contactor controls 240V Load.

I need a three phase wiring diagram for 8145-20 model timer.

8145-20 240Volt Paragon timer is not 3-phase.
Clock motor is 240V.
You need a transformer to convert 3-phase to single phase 240V to operate timer.
Then timer outputs can control 3-phase power using 3-phase contactors
Contactor below is 3 phase with 240V coil

Wiring for a dayton 3Z967A

Although your model number does not register at www.grainger.com, it sounds like it may be a granger item. I find refernece on google that it may be a ( 14.5CFM@175PSI 230-460V 3 PHASE, 80 GALLON) shop type compressor. Thus to wire this unit you would need to look at the info sticker on the motor to determine if it actually needs three phase. If there is no refernece sticker on the motor, then call the grainger 1-800 number which is found at the above mentioned web address and speak to a rep that will fax you what info they have. Many times the information about the motor will be found by looking for a grainger part number for the motor only instead of the grainger # for the whole unit. Also the motor may have been changed. If you determing that its three phase and you have three phase available please email and I will try to help with wiring, should be easy. I will need all the wire labels such as (L1, L2 and colors.) Three phase motors have many wires that are tied together to make three lines. Please tell me how they are bundled. Good Luck with grainger.
