I have a new Pentium with both Corel Office and Microsoft Office
installed. I just saved a file in Wordperfect. In Win Explorer it
shows up as a Microsoft Word file. Is this normal. Will there be
any problems with bringing this file in Wordperfect on another computer?
Any ideas.
Thanks,
Steve

This happened to me also. For some reason the File Types were incorrectly
entered when loading one suite or the other. Somehow the .wpd extension gets
associated with Word. It won't cause problems on other computers, but you'll
probably want to change the File Type association on your computer so that if
you double click on a file with a .wpd extension you bring up WordPerfect instead
of Word.

You are probably using wordperfect's old .DOC extension which is also
used by word. Don't use this extension in Wordperfect. Rename older
documents to get rid of it. For older files in 5.x, use .WP,and for
version 6 and later use .WPD. Wordperfect is going to want to use
.wpd anyway. Wordperfect may automatically try to give 5.x format
files the .DOC extension when you save them from the FILE SAVE AS
menu. Don't let it do this by explicitly typing in the .WP
extension. For 6.x and later, Wordperfect will automatically use
WPD, unless you have disabled auto extensions. There are some other
subtleties which I won't get into unless you are still having
problems.

Word defaults to a .doc extension, so if you used it in your WP doc,
windows will see it as a Word file. However. since WP isn't choosy about
extensions, there should be no problem. It reads the file format, not the
extension

Keep your extensions different. Microsoft expects a DOC file to from
Word and a WPD to be a WordPerfect file.
