I have recently purchased a Ruger Mark II with bull barrel.
After purchasing the pistol, I have heard that this gun is
prone to 'choking' on certain manufacturer's ammoHas anyone
out there experienced any problems with this pistol's ability to
function properly any particular ammo?

It will choke on the Russian Junior Brass ammo after about 200 rounds.
What happens is that the "goo" that coats the ammo eventually builds up
on the receiver and gums up the action. A Q-tip can be used at this point
to remove the buildup.
I have tried US manufacture ammo up to about 100 rounds w/o problems.

I had the same problem with "bad ammo".
Turns out it wasn't ammo at all, it was one of my magazines.
-- Suggestion -- put a different scratch or mark on each of your
magazines, I'll bet you will discover that one of those mags is
is hangiong up and giving you all of your headaches.
This is what happened to me-- It was an aftermarket
(non Ruger) mag. Now I can put just about anything
through my piece and it runs smooth as can be.
FYI I generally will shoot with CCI green tag.
Good shooting!

I've put tens of thousands of rounds through my MkII and have had
very few feeding problems (proportionally). I do, however, have a few
points I'd like to address:
1) Keep the feed ramp and bolt-face free from lead build-up.
2) Keep the bolt clean; if it is slowed down by dirt it may not have
enough momentum to pick up the round _and_ feed it all the way.
3) If the feeding or ejection problems are more often than 1 in a
brick of ammo, you may want to note if a particular magazine seems
to be in connection with it. Out of the first 5 or 6 magazines,
only 2 worked extremely reliably in my MkII. They all worked, but
I was searching for minimum malfunctions.
As far as ammunition goes, I've shot many many different kinds, and none
of them just blatantly refused to chamber.
I went through about 3 cases of PMC Target .22 with very few ammo
problems. Two other shooters who I regularly shot with had been having
problems with the ammo though (the difference might've been in lot #s).
That is the primary reason I stopped using it: I didn't want to push my
luck too far.
I also shot at least a couple cases of Hansen standard velocity .22
through my MkII and found it to be very reliable and accurate (generally
shooting at 50 and 25 yards). I stopped using it because the tensions had
progressed in Yugoslavia (where it is made) to the point that the ammo was
no longer available with ease.
Hansen was a dirty ammo however, and I remember catching little bits of
burning powder and lead shavings on my hand and arm when shooting.
I'm working on my 4th or 5th (I can't remember which) case of CCI Blue.
It seems to be very reliable in chambering and it is very accurate and
clean.
I have shot a brick or so of Federal Gold Medal (I think that's what it's
called), and I was _very_ impressed. This is many months after Federal
Classic's horrendous streak of duds; my compliments go to Federal for
putting together a beautiful .22 target round after the Classic screw-up.
Their new round is possibly the cleanest shooting .22 ammo I've used.
Gold Medal I found to have a really pleasantly addicting feel paired with
unfaltering accuracy and reliability. This may be a premature judgement
having only fired a little over a brick of the stuff, but that brick sure
felt good.
If there is any other feedback on the Federal ammo, I would be interested in
it.
I hope this helps some.

The only problem I have had with my Mark II is its failure to extract live
rounds when I manually operate the bolt. I have fed several brands of ammo
through it, including Stinger hollow points with no failures to feed or
extract. The failure only happens when I ma manually trying to unload a
round. I have cleaned the extractor assembly but to no avail. I have an
order for some replacement parts (under $10.00 worth) that should fix me
right up. Welcome to the Mark II club, I am sure glad that I joined.

My Ruger Mark II shoots any .22LR ammo quite well. For top accuracy,
it likes Federal Classic copper.

Just bought a Mk II Target model in 6 7/8" barrel myself. I put 250
rounds of Remington HyperVelocity through it last weekend, with one
stovepipe and one round which failed to discharge. That's a 99.2%
success rate for one outing with one type of ammo, FWIW (lies, damn lies...)
I checked the rim of the dud round, and the impression of the firing pin
looked the same as on other rounds that discharged successfully. I
don't know enough about the QA on .22 rimfire ammo to know whether the
problem was with the cartridge itself or if the pistol didn't function
properly.
Just one data point for your consideration.
