Question about Samsung 1000W 5.1-Ch. Home Theater System with Upconvert DVD Player

Losing picture while watching dvd

During play of a movie, i lose the picture, but the audio is still there. i have tried different hdmi cables and it is consistant. however, losing the picture doesn't always happen - very random. i have tried to isolate the problem and it is definitely in my dvd player. i have sent my dvd player back in and it was gone-through and guaranteed, but is still doing the same thing that it has always done. not every movie and completely random. could it be in the dvd itself? possibly the connection to the cable?

Your in luck , I just had the same exact issue and it was driving me crazy! and here is the solution ,check the hdmi cable sometimes the bend in the cable is enough to make theese highly sensitive cables cut their signal where the picture goes out but the sound is still on , i have a entertainment cabinet that houses the stereo/lazer disc player/blue ray player / and power amplifiers , well this cable along with other hdmi cables was a cheaper guage wire ,so i replaced it with a guage wire hdmi and never had the problem again , if you take your hdmi cable and just sort of press up against it and move the wire with your hand ,you will probably see your picture cut out , the conector pins that the hdmi cable plug into are like little needles and they are extreemly sensitive to movement and especially the cheaper cables , if you have a better hdmi cable just switch them and you will see what i mean , Another way to test it is to just use component cables and see if your picture cuts out , if it dose,nt then you will know for shure its the hdmi cable , Hope i was able to help you fix your problem , if i was of help please leave a nice rating for me , sincerely glenn mayer and good luck!

OK, just kidding. If your TV or its remote control has a Reset button you can press it twice to reset the TV to original factory conditions (but you lose all customised picture and sound settings). If the TV receives its signal from a cable box or DVR, try connecting a different device such as a DVD or Blu-ray player and play a movie disc. If the problem on your TV screen still exists that suggests the TV needs repair or replacement. If the picture is OK when playing a DVD movie that suggests that your cable box or DVR is faulty and needs replacing (usually free from the cable TV company).

How do I repair our Samsung LCD Television? I would really appreciate an answer ASAP. Where will my answer appear for my review.

Don't know what service provider you have, free to air, satellite, cable or what? Try feeding the TV another signal and see what it does. Play recorder movie from DVD, or if you have a VCR around even try that. If it plays the DVD etc, with no issues, then TV is not the problem, most likely the cable box, satellite box etc, could be as simple as a bad cable connection at the house, a splitter or street box. Eliminate all the simple things first, then look at the TV.

I would like to hook up my components without having to turn on the receiver to watch tv from DVR or Cable if possible. I have Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HD Cable DVR w/HDMI out, Samsung TV w/HDMI ,...

You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.

I have the LG lht854 home theater system and a LG42LG 40' LCD television which we purchased about 30 day’s ago. 20 minutes through watching a movie the picture cuts out on the screen for a couple seconds but not the sound /and then comes back it does this throughout the movie. We have tried different DVD’s but get the same results. This problem just started 10 days ago. What can we do?

Blu ray not playing on ps3

Could be an overheating issue.. Is there enough air circulation around the unit? Is it possibly dusty? try and perform minor servicing (use a can of compressed air incase if there's dust causing problems)

Does this happen on regular dvd's ?

Hi Mark

I am going to take a stab in the dark here...

Did you plug the hdmi from the receiver to hdmi via the monitor hdmi output? this is needed so when you change the device on the receiver ie. between setop box and dvd the monitor changes with it accordingly.

You may also need to go to the setop box to set it to use hdmi output at the right frequencies too..ie. 720p 1080i or 1080p.Also set it so it only sends the picture via hdmi but audio still with optical out.

good luck

You need a audio cable for sound. HDMI cable is only for picture. I use the comp 1 plugs myself, better picture. I found with my TV that the HDMI cable is only good if you have a digital box for it. You can also use the plug to hook your computer to off your graphics card and watch downloaded movies on.
