Acer Aspire M5100 Vista 64 Bit - No sound, just static

I recently installed Vista 64 bit and 3 more gigs of ram (it already had 3) on my Acer M1500 AMD Anthon 64X2 6000. The sound is not working properly now. When a sound is played I hear static. The system says the driver is working. I tried installing the most recent Realtek drivers but it didn't help. I have scoured the internet for a week trying to solve this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ive had this problem with my machine as well. i had to reinstall then update the audio drivers (i know that doesnt help) but it ended up being my USB wireless adapter that was causing the problems. Once i updated that, it stopped the noise (which was good because i was using my tower to DJ, and noone likes static while gettin their groove on) ... so.. im no comp geek, and my knowledge is average on the subject, but i would suggest checking any peripherals you might have installed on this machine. who knows, ya might just get lucky..

Can you please remove some of the extra ram you have added and see if you get the same problem. If you don't get the same problem install each ram stick (if more than one) one at a time and test to see if there is any problem.

Do I need to download new bios for my acer wg43m motherboard in order to be able to install more ram?

A 32-bit operating system is limited to around 3.5 GB's of Ram Memory. You will have the ram memory installed, but it will only recognize 3.5GB.

A 64-bit operating system will recognize up to 128GB's of ram memory.

Windows XP Home is a 32-bit operating system.
Windows XP Pro had a 32-bit version available, and a 64-bit version available.

This also goes for the various Vista operating systems, and Windows 7 operating systems.

LOOK, and see.

1) If it is Windows XP Pro;

Left-click on Start, then right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

What does it state? If 64-bit is not shown, it is a 32-bit operating system.

2) If it is a version of Vista, or Windows 7;

Left-click on the Windows logo button. Right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties.

Again, if it is a 64-bit operating system, you can bet Windows will state it.

I installed 4 Gig of RAM memory but only 3.25 shows up.\r\nis there a test I can run to see if the memory cards are working correctly? Thanks. Paul

It sounds like you are running a 32 bit operating system XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (32).
The 32 bit Operating Systems are only able to see and use about 3Gb of RAM. To use a greater amount you will need a 64 bit OS (either Windows XP/64 or Windows 7/64) or one of the open source 64 bit operating systems.

Want to upgrade my pavilion a6230n sound card(stock)what do you suggest?Also i was thinking of taking the ram from 3gigs to 4could you advise me on this?it is a 32 bit system hardgamer

Well, you can only use 3 gigs of ram with windows anything unless your running a 64 bit operating system and a 64 bit processor. So, if you have a 32 bit cpu? You are probably wasting your money. Look at some of the Sound Blaster Cards, they are a very good product,

Can i install 8 gig ram in my m3201 and get it all to work

Short answer: Yes, you can. (see here)

In order to USE it, you have to have an Operating System that can handle that amount of memory like Windows XP 64-bit or Vista 64-bit. See a chart here.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Cust is not able to download any program on vista operating system it gives an error message as not supported on windows 64 bit

there is very little software, and virtually no freeware, that supports vista 64 bit. return the computer if u can and exchange it for one with vista 32 bit, these machines usually have 3 gigs or less of ram, where as the vista 64 bit systems will typically have 4 or more gigs of ram.

It says board can take 4 gig of memory but back slots 2 big

If your MoBo supports 4 Gigs, Vista 32 bit will only utilize approximately 3.48GB, and XP 32 bit will only use 2GB, so unless you are running Vista 64 bit (which will use up to 8GB, if your MoBo will?), the OS isn't going to see but 2 to 3+ depending on which version of windows you're running,

As for the slots being too big, you are probably attempting to install the wrong RAM for your MoBo. Compare the RAM in question with what the MoBo manufacturer says is compatible.

Good luck, and I hope I helped you.
