Gateway Model 0019401806 Tower - Power button fell into case

The power button my Gateway Model 0019401806 is depressed into the opening and I can't find a way to reach it from behind the case to replace it. The position is stuck in the 'off' position. If I could just get it 'on' I would use my powerstrip to control it. Any ideas how to access the back of the tower case (front)?

Take the side panels of the case (while unplugged from power outlet), from their you can reach the two tabs on the upper right and left and the plastic front of the tower will come off. When looking at the back of the tower, on the right there are two screws you can turn with your fingers and on the left side there are two screws you'll need a socket wrench for, or pair of small pliers to turn. Once these are off, the side panels will slide out.

I have the same problem, but cannot find a replacement button, as the reason it fell was the mechanism broke (the external button moves to press a tiny button on the tower itself). So I have to use the computer without the front on and just press the little button on the tower.

DO NOT use the computer without the side panels off though. I'm not sure about using the computer without the front panel, it seems ok, just looks ugly, but computer works.

If anyone knows where to find the lever button for these Gateway towers, please let me know. Gateway customer service is useless.

There are tabs inside the case that you depress to pull the front cover off. once pulled off you should be able to replace the switch.

hope this helped
please rate well.

My gateway GT 5056 computer will not power on. I have checked the plug on both ends. There is no action when you depress the on button. We had a power failure yesterday and the computer will not come on.

Assuming there's no fuse in the mains plug or that you also checked it and its good, it sounds like the Power Supply Unit (PSU) in your pc tower has failed.

They're fairly easy to change, and if you're not too proud, fairly cheap second hand or from ebay.

The you'll need to disconnect everything, take the cover off you pc tower, the PSU is usually at the tom and back of the tower, the mains cable goes into the back of it.

Taking it out it fairly easy, there's usually just four screws which bolt to the back wall of the tower.

Then there's loads of connectors, Motherboard, possible ancillary to motherboard, one to each hard drive, one to each disk drive and one to the floppy drive.

All the connectors are key coded (Special shape and size) so you can't put them on the wrong device.

You'll need to get hold of a replacement, either the same power (no. of Watts - 250w, 350w) or better.

Putting the new one in is the reverse of taking the old one out.

Its straight forward, but give youself plenty of time and space to work in.

Oh ........ and give it a good dust out while the tower is open, helps stop the CPU overheating.

Open the tower

Check the case to see if there is a button at the bottom of the back of the case. Sometimes the thin cases like that, similar to dell, open like a book.

Computer will not turn on

May sound strange, but is the power supply switch in the correct position?
If the button is pressed, makes your continuity test, and not even the fans come on, check that the switch jumper has not come loose from the motherboard, and finally, if the motherboard is plugged in and no fan comes on when you push the power button, there may be chipset damage from an electrical surge or overheating.
In this case, a new mobo is your only option.
