Get the right cover for your phone as there is no modification unless you brake the tabs off, but then the cover will keep falling off.

I can't work out how to get an old sim card out of my motorola razr and replace with new one - do I need to remove the battery as it is in the way? and how do I do that?

To release the battery - push down on the battery from the top of the phone and lift it out using the same motion as you used to lift the cover. The SIM will then slide out. Don't try lifting the metal strip covering the SIM, it is part of the locking mechanism and the SIM will not contact properly if this is broken.

How to open the battery

To remove the battery cover, turn off the phone first. Flip the phone to close it and then locate the back of the phone. Press in and then hold the battery door latch until it reveals the battery.

No buttons work...not even the volume and others along side

I had the EXACT same problem this morning. After leaving the cingular store where the guy just wanted to sell me a new phone, I went home and took the phone apart - just took off the battery cover, battery, sim card and the rest of the back cover, reattached cover, put everything back together and everything works fine now! Try it - good luck! You need a T5 torx bit to remove the two screws holding on the back cover.
