Hi, Please try to push or move the frame of your tv set on the dark side of the picture. If the picture becomes normal it is the loose connection. Otherwise it may be panel failure. Please consult some qualified technician or the service center.
This indicates a failure of the video processor/drive to the main panel. May be difficult to replace iseally check out an estimate with your nearest Sony service centre. Might turn out better than causing more harm.... hope my advise suits..
If you get close to the TV can you see that the picture is there just not being lit up by the back light on that side. I would suspect the inverter for the back light on that side but since you say what model sony it is can't say for sure.
