Question about Teac DC-D2831 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

System is frozen

It turns on and off but nothing else works - it's frozen.  I can't even retrieve the CDs that are already in the player.

The CD player won't recognize CD's.

Most of those CDs they sell are just a gimmick, nothing can replace a good hand cleaning with a cue-tip done by taking the whole thing apart. Take it to the local technician to get it cleaned properly first and foremost, or do it yourself if you feel safe enough taking all this apart and cleaning a tiny fragile little lens with a cue-tip and windex yourself. If a good hand cleaning like that does not work, then it means the reader head itself is defective and need to be replaced. If this is the case, don't bother. A cheap head will go for around 200$ usually and sometimes more, and at the price you get a new complete system it will be better buying a whole new sound system.

My mothers Teac DC-2831 skips when playing cds. We have used cd cleaning disc, and even compressed air. Nothing! What can we do? If we have to take it to a repair shop, can you give us one in the Los...

My DC-2831 started doing the same thing -- and continued, despite repeated cleaning with a CD-player cleaning disc. Oddly, older CDs would play OK, but brand new ones -- commercial CDs, not homemade -- would promptly begin skipping or lock out altogether. Solution?

Unplug the system, lock the turntable stylus arm into place with the attached C-clamp, then carefully unscrew the back and side panels. Once the innards are exposed, gently lift out the CD-player and visually inspect it for hidden dust, pet dander, even fur can get inside there and gum up the works, and that's something NO CD-cleaning kit can ever reach.

Once you've inspected and cleaned the CD-player of all visible dust and dirt, carefully replace the player, make sure it's seated properly within the shell, then reattach the side and back panels in the exact reverse order as you removed them. THIS IS CRUCIAL: if you don't put the stereo back together in the exact reverse of how you took it apart, you'll have components off-kilter, screws that won't go back in (and leftover screws are a sure sign you're screwed it up!) and your CD-player will be even more temperamental than ever. Word to the wise.

If all this sounds too scary, then you'll have to either live with the crappy CD-playing performance, or get a new system. You can't replace the CD-player unless you buy an entire new system. WARNING: these all-in-one turntable systems are VERY RARE anymore, so don't get mad and kick your TEAC or toss it out or give it away on a whim. You'll play hell trying to find a replacement.

Hope this helps!

Bose Lifestyle CD not eject

There are some repair instructions available at www.AnyoneCanFixIt.com in the electronics section that will show you how to release the CD magazine and fix the problem where the unit will not play the CDs (you will hear a buzzing, buzzing, buzzing, and nothing will load or play).

The CD player does not work

It sounds like a mis-aligned laser or faulty laser unit. Either way unless you have experience of fixings cd players yourself its a job for the technicians. Good luck.
