the laser lens that reads the disk is dirty, buy a dvd that comes with a little bottle of solution, this will clean the internal lens, other 2 possible reasons, the dvd disks/games are dirty or too many stratches, and or the dvd disk/game is damaged, you can buy a scratch remover kit from any local store. These are the simple most common problems seen with video games and dvd players.
If you have tried a CD cleaner disk with no results, then this is a problem with the laser that reads the disks. These lasers have two adjustments on the bottom of them, one for CDs (PS1 games) and one for DVD (PS2 games). It is sometimes possible to adjust the DVD side and get it to work (there are many tutorials on the web on how to do this), but unfortunatly this is a temporary fix. The only real fix is to buy another laser. They are very abundant on the web (ebay is a great source for them too!). They are very reasonably priced now. Either way the unit will have to be disassembled. Hope this helps you out...
Hi, is it a slimline one cos sometimes the switch that tells the console that the doors shut breaks. U could try pushing it down gently too see if it activates but i cant be responsible for breakages or possible blindness if you look into the laser. LOL
if the consoles still warranted, get it replaced or repaired.
Certain consoles use 2 different lasers. 1 for blueray and dvd. and 1 for games. Others have ways of switching power up and down. to enable different reading formats. i,m not sure of the PS3s backwards compatabilities. but you could try a PS2 game.
if it does,nt read that or any game. i,d suggest a laser read problem.
Hope this helps mike@Compurepair.
I'm going to assume that you've had the PS2 for a long while. If it isn't under any kind of warrenty, you could try opening it up, and just clean it out a bit. Sometimes the eye can get dusty over time and have a difficult time working.
You could also purchase a cleaning kit from electronic stores, or even wal-mart. All you do is apply a cleaning agent onto a cd that comes with it, and you put it in.
Don't fret too much about this issue, it's quite common in older consoles that read cd's/dvd's.
