SOURCE: maytag side by side, bottom freezer compartment had daily ice build up

I had the same problem with mine a couple of months ago. There is a drain which gets plugged. You have to remove the contents of your freezer, and then look at the back area of the freezer. The panel that's on the back is removable. Once it's removed, you will see a drain at the bottom. Mine was clogged up with debris, and was covered with ice. I poured warm water over the drain, soaked it up...did this a few times to melt the ice, then I worked at cleaning out the drain. Mine wasn't plugged too badly, I ended up having to blow air through the drain using my air compressor, to be positive that it was clear of debris. You could poke something down the drain, but it won't go very far because there is an elbow on the drain tube(visible on the backside of the unit itself)

If you get it cleaned out, it should be fine. Mines been great ever since I cleaned mine out...no more puddles on the floor.

SOURCE: Bottom of freezer has water dripping into it

We had a similar problem. It ended up being a frozen pea that fell down into the defrost drain and was blocking the water from draining out each time the freezer defrosted.

SOURCE: Ice forming on bottom of freezer section. Water leaking in from back

sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

SOURCE: Maytag side by side freezer drain icing

This is a pretty common problem. Sometimes the defrost cycle is not long enough because the freezer setting were too low. But most times this begins slowly until the drain finally closes and then the water has no where to go but the inside of freezer or refrigerator. I have more help topics to prevent a constantly happening over and over again. But you may have a blockage down-line from the freezer. So until you can melt the ice and pour a warm solution of water and clorox in the drain and it end up in the pan below the refrigerator I will hold off on that until I hear back from you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

ICE FORMS IN FREEZER BOTTOM,

Keep the bottom of your freezer free from ice. ... The water from the melted ice and frost drains through a short tube and into a pan beneath the refrigerator, where it evaporates. Should the drain line become clogged, the water has nowhere to go and it freezes, forming a layer of ice in the bottom of your freezer.

Water leaking from bottom front, ice in bottom of freezer

Your drain line form the evaporator is clogged. Locate the drain under the back and use a wet/dry vacuum to unclogged drain. The drain line can be also blocked by excessive ice buildup from incomplete defrosting. Remove frozen foods and open door to freezer section and remove power and manually defrost unit. Once ice is stopped melting try vacuuming the drain line again. Sometime drain line gets clogged with debris such as garden peas, corn, wrapping and the like. Once drain line is cleared the water and ice on the freezer bottom should stop forming.

Plugged drain

Need to completely defrost freezer. hot rags, hot water, paper towels, etc. Until you get all the ice out you don't have a chance of unclogging the drain. Could be just ice clogging it too which in that case hot water will solve that as well. If it's something else clogging the drain, I've used a mini bottle brush to unclog them or even a stiff piece of solid wire.

We have a GE 20.3 cu. ft. upright frost free freezer that keeps forming a layer of ice on the bottom, which we assume is happening when it is defrosting. How do we unclog the drain?

I let the ice box thaw out and use a shop vac to open the drain hole. You can find the end of the drain hose above the compressor drain pan.

Ice forming at bottom of freezer

You are very bad. Of course the drain does something. Pour hot water over the ice. Use a sponge to pick up the water when it is not hot and do it again until the drain is clear. I use a Mr. Coffee as a quick source of very hot water.

Ice forming where ice comes out to refrigerator

I am not sure if this is the same issue or not.  the flap that closes after you have dispensed ice does not close or seal all the way.  The gasket is worn down. the result is warm air get up into icemaker and warms ice and refreezes in one block so now the dispenser gets blocked.  We had to replace the flap in the door.  bought the part at an appliance part  store (not sears) they were helpfull and looked up the part needed.  Also a sheet of ice forms on the  bottom of the freezer.  When water is dispensed a small bit drips inside freezer in back and runs down to botom of freezer slowly forming a sheet of ice.  Use a hair dryer to defrost and then you must unclog the drain in the back at the bottom of ffreezer to allow it to drian.  Once we finally unclogged the drain we have not had any problems for about 2 years.

Ice forms on the bottom of the freezer

Is this a result of defrost melt liquid winding up in the bottom of the unit? Find out why it is not draining properly into the pan. A slight bit of frost is normal.

Water always inside refrigerator sometimes ice forms

LadyBlues, This is a top mount freezer. What's happening is that the drain in the freezer area is frozen over. When the unit goes into defrost, the water is running into the refrigerator area instead of going down the drain hole. You will have to remove the freezer bottom panel and then the freezer rear panel to unclog the drain hole. It will be under the evaporator in the drain tray. Use some nice hot water from the microwave and pour it into the tray until the water flows down the drain tube. This should clear up your problem. Catriver.
