Question about Carrier Air Conditioners

1 Answer

I have Bryant HRV and the motor has failed. I have received a new motor but there are two extra wires on the replacement motor. Below I have described the wiring diagram from the original motor with the replacement motor following. My question is - do the two additional wires need to be connected? The VRV unit is a Model VB5AAB015 and the serial number is 0494V00006. This unit was instaled in my house in 1994. the original motor is a Fasco No 7190-0921 and the Type is U90B1 The connection diagram is as follows: White ------Line Black-------Line Brown----- - - Brown----- Green/yellow --ground The new motor is Model 71902271 and the type is U905B1 The connection diagram is different and this is where the two extra wires come in. On the control panel in the house there is no opportunity to change the speed of the unit. Connection Diagram Gray Common The gray and orange are together and have the same coupler as the white and black line on the old motor. Orange High Blue Medium Red Low Brown Brown Green/Yellow. So, do the blue and red wires need to be hooked up or can they just be secured? I don't believe my HRV motor has anything that these will attach to.

My blower fan doesn't come on.

2006 and later models have a X 13 blower motor. several million have failed. There is a 5 year parts warranty but you must pay for service to replace it. After the warranty expires a new one costs around $550.00 plus installation cost. Look on the end of the motor if it's an X13 there is no capacitor. If it's not an X13 the capacitor is the most likely problem.

Bryant 557A fan blower not working. tech shows up and says need new fan motor. goes back to shop and owner of ac business calls and says he wants to recheck. comes back and puts test set on ...says new...

Is it burning up the motor or the control module?
If its the module the motor is probably running at full speed all the time. They need to check the wiring, duct static, filters, coil, any restrictions to airflow.
It might be a good idea to have them check with the Bryant customer service technicians or hot line. They deal with these problems all the time.

What is the part number for the outdoor fan motor?

as old as this unit is you probably cannot read the label on the motor it is either a 1/4 or 1/3 horse power 230 volt motor. a generic motor will work fine, use a 1/3 to be sure. also replace the capacitor so it matches the new motor. if you can read the label the part number is on it, should be an HK # with about 7 more digits
