My oldish Sony has started blinking to black every few minutes---is it just about finished or should I think about having it repaired?? It is connectedto a Brighthouse cable box.

If you still have the sound when the picture blanks out you might have a weak picture tube . Are the colors bright or somewhat weak . If they are its the picture tube . Now if it has good color and brightness then you may have a loose connection in the set or something wrong in the video circuit . Older sony tv tend to have weak picture tubes .

The light is blinking a code. The code will be a series of blinks, a pause and the blinks again. Phone Sony service and give them this code. They will be able to advise you as to the problem.

Blinking a black screen on and off.

Picture tubes do not "go out" by going black: Your TV has a power heat-related issue. It is trying to come on but, the protection circuit is preventing it.
As; opening it to dust it, is dangerous; I suggest you take it to a good tv shop.

Pictures goes black while power light blinks green

I have a 40 but i was having the same problem. It turned out to be my lamp. I got a brand new lamp from Projector Lamp Services (relampit.com) and my tv works fine now. Im pretty sure that the 40 and the 60 take the same lamp. You might want to give them a call.

Blinking picture until warmup

On Sony TV's they monitor the current drain on all three electron guns Red Green and Blue. Until all are somewhat equal it will keep the CRT blank. As the set ages it means that it might flash a few times until the cathodes are good and warmed up.
