Engine random cuts out and stalls and lacks power at times. originaly thought problem was fuel related, no longer do, but stumped on what to do next? what should fuel presure be on this? Mine varies from 22 to over 30 while running depending on drive conditions. fuel pressure stays constant while engine problems happen. replaced fuel filter, checked fuel pressure, fuel regulator both are in spec. took it to parts store for code check they found two codes p0440 evaporative emmission control system malfuntion p0325 knock sensor 1 malfuntion any ideas on what the problem maybe? I don't know what do do next? Darrel
Fuel pressure should be 34 - 38 psi.fuel pump could be failing.
is that with the fuel pressure regulator vacume line off?
I get almost 40 psi with vacume line off. when i pinch off return line I get 60+ psi?
with engine running vacuum line off fuel presuure should rise.with engine running vacuum line reconnected vacuum line to fuel pressure regulator should drop mid 30s. .
mine drops to about 23ish psi at idle with vacume hose on and on flat road at 55mph runs at about
28psi. floor it ,it jump to about 32psi
fuel pressure kinda low.what is fuel pressure with engine off ignition switch on position.should be 34 to 38 psi.
timing belt been replaced 60000 miles intervals.

have exhaust system check could be partially plugged.have ECM code scan could have low idle speed.defective transmission torque converter which will causes lack of power.
it is manual trans. i replaced knock sensor today it was cracked. I started it up and it ran rough and was cutting out and stalled. when i tried to restart it it would just crank over and could smell raw fuel coming out of exhaust pipe. after 3 or 4 long starter runs it started to skip, then it 100% started and ran like nothing happend? I had constant fuel pressure while this was all going on also. I thinking maybe the ignition is cutting out? I have get codes rechecked tomarrow and see any new problems showed up?

How ever today it acted up again and cut out very hard and stalled at stop signs. It did this for about 15 min constant and finally the check engine light came on. After about 20 mins it started to run fairly normal agian with light random cut outs.
I could reproduce cut out feeling by turning off key while driving then turn it back on. It is a manual trans. I am very sure if it was an automatic it would stall out while driving due to the automatic trans won't keep engine spining during the cut outs?

I replaced knock sensor it was cracked. started it up and ran rough and stalled out. when i tried to restart it it would not start, just crank over not even a pop .I could smell fuel from exhuast. it started to skip and started and ran ok. i wonder if it is cutting out on the ignition system? i have to get codes rechecked after i put new knock sensor and see what else is wrong still?
