When the top is opened there is a sensor which comes up and the cartridges come in the center.when the top is closed the sensor gets pressed due to the closed topo and the cartridges move towards in.as the cartridges are coming in between and you say top is closed this indicates that the top lift door sensor is out of position or it is not getting pressed just check out properly the sensor is getting blocked or its broken.

Error 5200

This error indicates that the Waste Ink tank is full. In some cases, resetting the counter will fix clear the error, but in some cases, it couldn't be fixed until you clear or clean the ink pads inside the waste ink tanks.
First try this:
  1. With the printer turned on, unplug it.
  2. Open the top and bring the ink cartridge holder to the middle.
  3. Raise the gray bar and remove the print head assembly with the cartridges in it.
  4. Lower the gray bar with the head missing and close the top with the head out.
  5. Restore the power, wait till The printer wakes up.
  6. It will tell you to install the cartridges, do so.
  7. Restore the print head, close the top and the printer should resume working.

If the above trick didn't help, watch this video and follow the instructions [the model is different, but the method is more or similar, you'll only need to know how to dismantle the machine]:

You can also follow this "How to" [Click Here].

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.

The ink tank doesn't go to the middle

After you opened the front panel, did you lift the scanner section? The scanner section has a switch on it that activates the ink tank holders to come out to the middle so they can be changed. It is not the greatest design and it doesn't stay up by itself. I normally use an old cartridge to prop up the scanner section while I change cartridges. Hope this helps!
