You need a converter box. Go to Radio Shack website.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

My 42" flat screen phillips

I'd post TV model number first - it's on the back of the TV -and I'd also post a picture if I could.

The lines on the screen do not usually go with the "channel not available" problem and the likelyhood of you having both at the same time is , well, small.

Is there a fuse inside the grinder to protect it from an electrical surge. I accidentally plugged it into a 220 volt outlet.

My MDF was built in September 1993. It has a fuse inside a black cylindrical fuse holder on the electronics board that sits aside the motor. If you have a right-angle flat blade screwdriver, you can get the fuse out without removing the motor unit from the case. I didn't have the right tool, so I ended up removing the motor/grinder unit from the case to replace the fuse. The fuse is a 2A/250V Slow Blow. I used a Buss CDC-2A to replace the factory "5TT 2A/250V" fuse.

110v plugged into 220&worked. then blew when switched back to 110

The moment you plugged it in and tripped the fuse bad things happend, so most likely it won't hurt it anymore to plug it back into 220, although it could over volt and catch on fire. I would check the back of the screen to find out what it's operating range is. Many electronics are designed for a range of voltages to deal with other countries and power sources. I would guess something failed inside the system, most likely the Power Control Board (PCB) Why it held up for the night I have no idea.

110v lcd tv was plugged to 22ov outlet

Hello nik286, hi, check first the label at the back of the TV, look for a voltage input something like a 90V-240V, if you see this, its an autovolt system, this type of power supply input is standard nowadays. Assuming your asking what would be damage, this could be anything from the fuse, thermal resistor, rectifier diodes, and the regulator IC of the power supply board.

Will an led samsung or lg tv purchased in the usa work in south africa

It may work. You've to collect the information of the powersupply from the tv, because the usa has 110V and africa 250V or 220/230V. Maybe it's possible to just only switch the cable. But I don't know.
With kind regards,

My phillips flat screen tv has been cracked and

You can have your plasma repaired using a TV Repair guy but often it costs as much as a brand new LCD. My daughter broke my $1,600 LCD. It would have cost $1,200 to fix.. so I just bought a new one. After that I picked up a TV screen protector called TV Armor http://www.tv-armor.com Its designed to protect the TV from damage. Now I dont have to worry anymore when she is playing near it. It works really well.

Protron flat screen tv

Protron PLTV 4250- wont turn on-
Had the same problem with one here- The 110v end of the power supply board was found damaged, The following items may need to be replaced:
Fuse F1 (soldered in) . 6.5a @250v time delay
Mouser 576- 021506.3HXP – note this style is for a fuse holder instead of solder in- I added a fuse holder on the board
RT4 & RT5 inrush surge suppressors - I used shintron 8d-18 power suppressing thermistors
BD1 bridge rectifier - Mouser 627-D15 XB 60H Shindengen

If you want a little more protection modify the board as follows:

1.replace only RT5 in its original location & move RT4 into the other ac input line in front of the bridge rectifier. (cut trace & drill solder holes)

2. Add: MOV (metal oxide varistor) across ac inputs of bridge rectifier.
Maida mdc-z481-8oul or D69 ZOV 481 RA 105
This arrangment is copied from a samsung power supply.

Be careful when plugging in the I/O box on the outside cover, if any pins are inadvertantly bend loss of picture will result.

I have pics if anyone needs them

Horiz. lines across top of screen.

I agree with solution #2

I recently had my phillips 27" model 27PT6341/07 repaired after warranty expired due to white lines appearing at the top of the screen. The shop advised that it was a capacitor giving me the problem. So, after getting it back, I examined the repair job and the shop had replaced a capacitor at the back of the main board, next to the rear rca inputs. It is labeled 10uf 100v. I was told that it would fail again soon because it is a manufactures defect. For me it is at location 2465. Here are a couple of photos of the part.
