It would be best if you found the same HP PART NUMBER of the motherboard.
Ports change around.
Meaning if there is an option that your laptop didn't come with, [HDMI, Digital Media Slot, RJ-11 {Modem} jack], and the motherboard you're looking at does................?
Won't fit in your case.
Different Processors were used. Means different processor sockets.
Means you may not be able to use your Processor.
Perhaps even the Ram Memory changed.
Graphics options change also.
Look at what HP part number is on your motherboard, then search using that HP part number.
Some examples so you know what you are looking for. Not stating ALL examples, just a tidbit for edification,
HP 578053-001
HP 577065-001
HP 577064-001
HP 577067-001
HP 517997-001
Look on the motherboard.
This way you will be assured it will fit in the case, for one.
For two will reuse all of the hardware parts you have currently.
Windows authentication also matters.
When Windows is installed on a computer, it assigns hash values to certain major hardware parts.
Some examples are;
Processor
Harddrive
Graphics chipset
Motherboard: To include the motherboard chipset, and the BIOS program, and version/date.
Change any two of these components, and Windows will 'think' it is being stolen. Taken off of one computer, and installed on another computer.
This = No.
Microsoft User's License states, "One GENUINE copy of Windows per ONE computer."
[Microsoft makes a Master disk, and from it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold to the consumer ]
Same motherboard? Put a smile on your face. There will be no problems.
Change to a different motherboard? You MAY be lucky enough that the Windows activation screen comes. Then again, you MAY not.
So yes. IMHO you need the SAME motherboard.
Use the HP part number to find one.

SOURCE: how to replace a cooling fan for Compaq Presario
I would definitely consider taking it to a certified repair shop first.
If you must do it yourself, get the proper fan, (Which you can find on ebay for around $22 new), a set of small screwdrivers, and preferably an anti-static wrist band. You will likely need to take out every single screw in the thing to get to the fan. It will be fairly straight forward to replace unless you need to take off the heatsink, in which case the following information may be useful. If you can avoid taking off the heatsink do by all means.
As with all electronics wash your hands first, touch a ground
(Typically your sink facet is grounded), and stay grounded if possible
(With the wrist pad), and avoid touching any chips as the oils from
your fingers can cause problems.
And always take the battery out and make sure it's not plugged in before starting anything!
The fan itself has a 3 wire connector, and will simply screw into place on the heatsink.
If you do remove the heatsink from the cpu you may want some heat transfer goo .
Some heatsinks now don't use heat transfer goo any more and have a pink pad that melts at high temps which helps transfer the heat.
I prefer arctic silver for the heat transfer goo, and to remove the old heat transfer goo before adding the new. Place a very small amount on the heatsink, enough to cover the part it makes contact with and no more, being very careful to not allow any air bubbles, and making sure it's spread evenly across the surface. Don't use your finger, use a flat edge to spread it, Maybe a box razor blade or something similar.
If it uses the pink pad, do not put heat transfer goo on as when the pad melts the transfer goo will mix with the pad and degrade the performance of heat transfer. Ensure the pink pad is in the same place it was when you removed it.
Put back together, ensuring every screw is back in, then cross your fingers and toes.

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan
is not working your PSU is faulty
One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or
to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical
extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your
"((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or
just replace them they could be faulty
make
sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have
secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions or just
replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue
its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
hope
this helps
