Question about Yamaha RX-V800 Receiver

Front Display Panel Letters are Scrambled and Cannot Be Read

The Front Display Panel is working. However, the display letters/characters (the letters that change and describe the settings, volume, etc.) are completely scrambled. Thus, I do not know what setting the receiver is in or what it is doing. Also, a the digital display of the volume bar is fully illuminated, but missing a bar or two. Front Display Panel Letters are Scrambled. Could this be caused from an electric shock? Three weeks ago, I hooked up a pair of Klipsch floorstanding speakers using Monster brand speaker wires. I have been enjoying this receiver for years w/o any problems.

Thanks for the reply. I've already tried that but didn't make any
progress. A couple of days ago, I dropped it off at a friend of mine
who is an "audiophile equipment repairman". When we find out what's
wrong, I'll post the solution. Maybe this will help the other fellow.

    thanks again

Could need to be reset. Try unplugging it for a couple of Min's. it may reset itself. If not send me a message and I'll check the service manual for the reset procedure on Monday when I go to that hell they call work.

Is seems certain that the main processor or the display sub- processor has failed and so shows up the entire characters on the display panel.
You have to probe to see the working of the processor, check the +5 on the IC and also the Oscillation frequency to confirm the IC as defective.

Denon AVR-3802 Front Display problem

This can be either the display itself or the display driver IC havng problems. Something as simple as poor solder connections may cause this as well. Without seeing hte unit, it is difficult to say what the real problem is. If you can solder, try resoldering all of the voltage regulator ICs in the unit. These look like transistors and will be marked 7805 or 7812. If the voltages drift too low because of bad connections, the ICs can get "confused" and not work properly.

Keep us posted.

Reciever malfunctions after 30 mins use

This receiver runs VERY hot during normal operation. Make sure you provide good ventilation for it.

With summer here, you might consider a small clip-on fan and clip it near the top of the receiver. The amplifier section is along the front of the chassis - so that's the source of heat.

See if unblocking it helps - then try the fan.
