1.) Press the button on the receiver (the "antenna" which is connected to the PC by USB) to reset it. Sometimes, they don't have a button. If that's the case, unplug it from the PC, wait 5 seconds, and then reconnect it to the PC. Then, press the reset button on the bottom of the mouse. You should do these in the exact order described. If this doesn't work, then...
2.) It may be some sort of settings/software update issue. Rather than trying to weed out the particular issue, performing a System Restore would be much easier. System Restore can take up to 20 minutes and should not be interrupted. If this fails, try...
3.) Check the driver. In Windows XP, click Start, RIGHT-click My Computer, click Properties, select the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. In Windows Vista/7, click Start, RIGHT-click Computer, click Properties, click on Device Manager (the link at the top of the left-hand pane). Look for anything in this list which has a yellow question mark or exclamation point. If there is, Right-click it and select Uninstall. Then, Right-click on Computer (top of the list) and click Scan for Hardware Changes. This will reinstall it.
4.) If that doesn't work, you may have a virus. Scan with your antivirus software. If this is unsuccessful, follow your manufacturer's instructions for a System Recovery. I have an Acer Veriton X275. It has 8 USB ports. My USB wireless mouse/keyboard, printer, and phone charger all work on any one of the 8 ports. A Scan Snap machine will usually get picked up...

Make sure the system has the latest BIOS version from Acer website. Go into the setup utilty and load the system default settings even if you've never changed anything. See if the system responds differently. If it does not, then the problem could be driver related. A good driver update program may have success in finding updated drivers for imbedded devices like USB controllers. There are a few freeware programs available, but the good ones cost money. Hope this helps.

I installed windows 7 and now my biostar MF 8100 2M+ does not recognise 2 hard drives, I have 3 built in hard drives and 1 external hard drive, I have tried updating drivers

Set the jumper on the internal hard drives, set one as Master and the 2nd as Slave, or both as Cable Select, but that doesn't always work. Look to see if both drives are detected in the BIOS. I hope this helps. Good luck and have a fantastic day.

On my device manager i see a yellow ? under other devices / PCI device. It doesn't show me what kind of driver I need.

Hi,

Good day, the yellow question marks means that you have a device that has been detected by the computer but doesn't have a driver installed. You need to install the drivers included with your computer and devices. You can download a program on the internet that can detect all devices installed on your pc and it will update all your drivers to resolve this issue.

You can try to download this one:

http://www.devicedoctor.com/

> Just download and install
> Then run the program

It worked for my pc a lot of time. Help this will resolve your issue. Have a great day and thanks for using Fixya

If your internet is working, I would advice you to update the driver using the drivermax free software. It will automatically search for the updated driver for your sound card and other devices. Its a free software and Ive been using it for a w hile now. Its been very helpful to me.

The voice and sound on my laptop is not working dell d10

Step 1 .Reset the default BIOS settings:
You can try resetting the sound default in the BIOS. Here's how:
1. Turn the laptop on. When the Windows logo first appears, press the F1 key or Dell key repeatedly until you see the BIOS setup screen appear.
2. Press the F5 key ( Setup defaults). In some other PCs depending on the manufacturer the BIOS at start-up will have one of the default options that have names such as - ‘Load Fail-Safe Defaults’ and ‘Load Optimised Defaults’.You will have to choose ‘Load Optimised Defaults’
3. Select Yes or OK, then press the Enter key on your keyboard.
4. Press the F10 key, then select Yes or OK to save the default settings. Press Enter.
5. Exit the BIOS and restart your system checking for sound.
( For most system's entering the BIOS will be the same but if it differs for your system, consult the operating manual for instructions on entering the BIOS.)

If this doesn’t work go to step 2

Step 2 . Configuring on-board sound in the BIOS:

The on-board sound setting in the BIOS should be Enabled. To enter the BIOS, turn on the laptop and when the first screen appears, press the F1 key /Dell key repeatedly until the BIOS Setup screen opens. Use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys to select the Advanced tab. Press the DOWN ARROW key to select Onboard Audio Options and press ENTER. If Onboard Audio Options is not available, select I/O Device Configuration and press ENTER. If Audio Codec is listed, select it and press ENTER. Select either Enabled or Disabled depending on your configuration and press ENTER. Press the F10 key and then press ENTER to save and exit Start Windows and check for sound. If there is still no sound, continue to the next Step.

Step 3 . Reload the current sound driver

To do this, follow these steps
1.Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
3.Locate the audio device that was included with the computer.
4.Right-click the device, and then click Properties.
5.Click the Driver tab.
6.Click Uninstall.
7.Make sure that the Delete the Driver Software for this device check box is cleared, and then click OK.
8.In the Device Manager dialog box, click the Action menu, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
You should see a message that a hardware device is being installed. Additionally, the uninstalled audio device is now present in Device Manager.
9.Close the Device Manager dialog box, and then determine whether you can hear sound.

If that doesnt work and you have an installation CD, the audio drivers should be on the disk.

If you don’t have the CD go to your computer manufactures web page to search for updated sound driver software. Read the instructions on the download pages carefully
before installing.

If there are no updated sound drivers available, use Microsoft's Windows Update feature. Connect to the Internet and try the following items until Windows Update opens:

1.Click Start, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
2.Click Start, click Settings, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
3.Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
4.Go to Microsoft's Web site and click Windows Update from the Downloads menu.

Check if the sound works now….if it still doesn’t work then most likely the sound card might be faulty.

you put the 2 gb in the first slot(that's the default setting on all motherboards-the biggest memory is in front) then in the second slot the 1 gb after that restart if you get the same sound the remove the battery on the motherboard and put it back to reset the bios after that restart.

Do you have a restore point set prior to the offensive software installation? Try going there. I know that Uninstall does not always find everything it should so I have had to delete things manually sometimes. The hard part is finding this stuff to delete. Also check the drivers. Maybe this software installed its own drivers.
