If you yourself have replace it, I think you damage the upper LCD ribbon connector.
I have repaired a lot of DS, a broken hinge usually the cause of that problem( ribbon connector cut off ).
Check the upper LCD if that model have a seperate ribbon connector, luckily you could buy the ribbon only, if not, BAD LUCK, you have to buy a new upper LCD.
Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for asking FixYa!
if you would have sent it to me first I would have replaced the case for you and you wouldn't have had these problems, but I can still help you out. I have a white nintendo DS lite in stock that I had to replace the bottom lcd display in. I will ship to you for $90 and if you are feeling adventurous send me your parts and I will take off $10 since I have no clue what is broken and what is not, but to me it sounds like the bottom lcd, touch screen , and circuit board are trash. There is a ribbon that connects the top screen of the ds to the motherboard. It is possible that this ribbon became damaged when the hinge broke. A possible fix would be to replace the upper screen. Hope this helps.
As complicated a console as the DS is, it is not surprising you have a problem after changing a case. Sometime the little snap on wires do not snap on right. You need to go back in and make sure the ribbons and snap on connectors are sucured. The ribbon and wire that runs from top half through the hinge needs to roll up one turn before in the transition from the top to bottom half. You may have the ribbon upside down in the connector.
The only way you can repair this properly is to replace the casing with a new one... the hinge is a common problem and over 90% of my customers on the DS and DS Lite need a new case due to broken hinges. Once the plastic bit has broken then it will only get worse. The small bit that you say fell out was the actual hinge itself (a small black part with a silver end that twists and locks your console into place when open). Hope that helps!
