If you want to just PLAY DVD movies with your current setup, then try downloading and installing a free program called VLC MEDIA PLAYER from WWW.CNET.COM
which will let you play DVDs on your computer.
Here is the direct link to their download page where you can read about the software
, check out other user's reviews, and download it free if you want:http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html?tag=main;productListing
I use this free progarm on my computer and it works great.
Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated.
Then just click on the DOWNLOAD NOW (19.42 MB) button that you see on the left hand side of the page.
Then follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the program. Be sure to click on the yellow security bar at top of the page if necessary to ALLOW DOWNLOAD.
However, if you want to actually BURN videos onto recordable DVDs, then you are going to have to go out and buy a bit of new hardware.
The ROM part in DVD ROM stands for READ ONLY MEMORY. That means your disk drive can only READ DVD disks, it is unable to BURN (record) onto disks. For that you will have to go out and buy a DVD RW disk drive. They look exactly the same as yours, but are a few bucks more, and they have the extra capability of burning files onto blank recordable DVD disks (DVD-Rs).

Thank you very much, good luck, and take care.
